Description
Duties:
Broad Responsibilities include:
- To assist in implementing Environmental Education programs at The College Settlement Camp during the spring or fall.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Lead small instructional groups and at times participate in environmental activities during lesson periods.
- Lead small instructional groups through the Camp's group initiatives/ropescourse.
- Lead a large group evening activity at least twice a week, and develop new activities that would be appropriate for that time.
- Develop and write new lesson plans, in established format, for the outdoor school planning guide.
- Follow the teacher and supervision guidelines outlined in the planning manual.
- Develop and undertake a special project that will be educational to you and will benefit the program in some way. Some examples might be: constructing exhibits, developing a nature trail, writing a new series of lessons, collecting information for use with the program, etc. It will be up to the Teacher/ Naturalist and Program Directors to develop a realistic project.
- Work with organic farm staff to execute and develop sustainable agriculture programs and activities.
- Assist with upkeep of camp animal collection (donkeys, goats, chickens, etc.)
Other responsibilities include:
- Assist with upkeep/development of the Environmental Center and lesson equipment.
- Help with special day programs if the need arises.
- Help with Camp conducted workshops for teacher training.
- Participate in weekly evaluations of the program.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work out-of-doors.
- Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
- Related experience in Outdoor Education.
- Interest in and experience with elementary school students.
- Willingness to live and work in a group setting.
- Ability to communicate and work with campers and provide necessary instruction to campers in both environmental and adventure/challenge programs.
- Ability to observe campers behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety code regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to any camper activity the staff member participates in or leads.
Terms:
Salary:$225+ per week depending on experience.
Full room and board (private room)

Trainings provided if needed (ropes/challenge course/CRP/First Aid)
