Position Overview:

We are looking for a full time Sustainable Tourism Advisor to join our team here in the Lake District. The role involves working with tourism businesses in Cumbria to provide resources, education, advice and support to help businesses to reduce their environmental impacts in order to help to protect the natural environment.

Currently we have 4 key Responsible Tourism initiatives going on and you will be responsible for the delivery of one of these projects, Love Your Lakes. You will also work alongside other members of staff on other projects such as A Green Eden, where you will be responsible for organising training events.

Nurture Lakeland is a membership organisation and a key part of your role will include delivering support to our members and statutory partners through advisory visits and online information.

To achieve our aims we also work closely with and offer advice to local and regional conservation, landscape and environmental organisations and public bodies including the Lake District National Park, Natural England, District and County Council and other independent landscape charities.

In addition to this our unique ‘Visitor Payback' scheme raises funds to support local conservation, access and community.

Responsibilities:

Purpose of the post:

To deliver the organisations core functions in providing education, information, resources and projects to promote Sustainable Tourism in the Lake District and Cumbria.

The Sustainable Tourism Advisor will specifically be responsible for 2 of the organisation's Responsible Tourism initiatives which currently include; low carbon tourism, and, Love Your Lakes, and will be involved in our other Sustainable Tourism initiatives including, Fresh Air is Free, and A Green Eden.

The work will involve:

• Working with business and the tourism sector in Cumbria to develop an awareness of environmental impacts and identify solutions in order to protect the natural environment.
• Provide training, assessments, information and resources to tourism related businesses and their customers in order to reduce environmental impacts and improve environmental sustainability.
• Carry out Advisory Visits to members and to tourism businesses
• Providing online information to the tourism sector through our website and social media sites
• Deliver specific sustainability projects as undertaken by the organisation. Campaigns and projects will vary from time to time.
• Support the Director on the delivery of policy and the development of training courses and events
• Contribute to key events and activities

Compensation:  Starting at £17,250
