Sustainable Design at HOK requires a dual approach: Sustainability Consulting and Sustainable Design Integration.  Our Sustainable Design Integration team focuses on the integration of sustainable design principles into all of our design work, and Sustainability Consulting focuses on specific stand-alone services offered to our clients over and above the design process. 

Position Overview: 

The Sustainable Specialist, as a member of the Sustainability Consulting team, will be responsible for the management of LEED EBOM and other LEED Sustainability Consulting projects. The right candidate must have the ability to manage multiple submissions for any given project and/or multiple projects.

The candidate for this position will act as a LEED knowledge manager for the San Francisco office and will create and facilitate LEED training programs for the office. Additionally, with the help of existing HOK firm-wide resources, the candidate will create LEED submission document standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate project options based on success factors and challenge design assumptions to identify and motivate sustainable design opportunities
  • Perform, coordinate, and in some cases, oversee documentation for submission to the USGBC for Project LEED-EBOM Certification Develop, modify and/or review documents according to established standards and technical expertise
  • Maintain an advisory role to staff and clients for documentation and program compliance with all formats of LEED documentation and certification.
  • Accept responsibility for project deliverables and outcomes
  • Assist in analyzing client issues and developing solutions
  • Attend project meetings and brainstorming/visioning sessions
  • Coordinate with external consultants, including engineers, building operations, etc.
  • Provide technical analysis and support during design and construction
  • Develop solutions to technical problems
  • Aid in the development of sustainable policies, process methods, and tools
  • Act as an agent/advocate and subject matter expert for sustainable strategies, providing guidance and consultation to project teams to ensure decisions are executed in the best interest of all key stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture/Architectural Technology/Interiors/Engineering/Environmental Sciences or related field
  • Minimum 3 years experience related to the construction, development  or consulting process
  • Demonstrated LEED EBOM documentation and certification process experience
  • Must be a LEED Accredited Professional and have minimum of 3 years practical knowledge of USGBC LEED formats - NC, CI, CS, EB, including GGHC
  • Proven knowledge of LEED and Energy Star rating systems
  • Strong client relationship management and communications skills
  • Proficient in MS Office suite of computer programs. MS Project knowledge preferred.
  • Strong communications skills - both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • References from past clients required
