Sustainable Business Fellow (#343)


Background:


The Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) is the country's leading environmental careers development organization.


As a non-profit, ECO's mission is to protect and enhance the environment through the development of diverse leaders, the promotion of careers, and the inspiration of individual action.


ECO accomplishes this through internships, publications, conferences, public-private partnerships, research and consulting.


Duties:


The fellow will work with a company that is developing implementation of a Sustainable Development business process through a phased approach under the guidance/direction of an Executive Guiding Coalition comprised of 8 senior staff members representing business divisions and company-wide staff areas reporting to the Board of Management.


The goal is to capture, evaluate and quantify the business value of specific company activities and projects through the lens of Sustainable Development principles/practices.


Other Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop/gather internal and external business information related to evaluating business value through Sustainable Development practices, business drivers and external customer/competitor trends.
  • Work with Executive Guiding Coalition and other senior managers to develop, collect, assess, analyze, distill and report on Sustainable Development opportunities across related to products and services, internal policies and initiatives, communications and reporting.
  • Develop and document business process to identify, evaluate and assess business value related to Sustainable Development and specific implementation steps to capture value.
  • Cross cutting assignment across multinational Chemicals/Performance Materials firm in an emerging business area related to Environmental, Social and Economic success (Sustainable Development). Assignment touches all businesses and business process areas (Innovation, Governance, Growth, Productivity, EHS, Operational Excellence, Energy). Candidate will be educated in Six Sigma methodology and tools, strategic and business planning concepts and EHS management systems as related to Sustainable Development.


Qualifications:


University B.S. graduate with technical training (Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy) with a strong familiarity (and coursework) in Commercial and Financial areas (marketing, Finance & Accounting).


Prior experience:
Strong analytical skills, quick learner, team player, strong communications skills (oral, written, presentations). Research orientation. Knowledge of chemical industry and markets.


Computer skills (Word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software). Internet/Library research.


Optimal Qualifications:


MBA with sustainable business emphasis
Experience in Chemical Industry
Minor in Marketing or Finance.
Bilingual (English and German)


Terms:


Full-time; 6 months; 26.00 an hour; April/May; Deadline to Apply: April 22, 2003
