Position Description

Join a dynamic team of dedicated professionals who are helping federal agencies make their buildings and operations more sustainable, efficient, and resilient to the effects of climate change. The Sustainable Buildings Consultant position will support national headquarters and facilities across the country in achieving net-zero emissions and meeting the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings.

Location:

  • Based in Arlington, Virginia.

Responsibilities

Opportunities include the following:

  • Supporting programs to promote energy efficiency, water conservation, stormwater management, indoor air quality, renewable use, environmentally preferable materials, and waste management in laboratories and offices.
  • Reviewing building construction and renovation designs and specifications for sustainable features, climate resiliency, net-zero emissions opportunities, adherence to the federal Guiding Principles, and LEED certification requirements.
  • Assessing facilities, sites, and planning documents for opportunities to improve climate resilience.
  • Planning, tracking, and reporting on facility and agencywide efforts to meet federal sustainability and high-performance building requirements.
  • Assessing and assisting in efforts to reduce facility energy consumption, water use, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and costs in laboratories and offices.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in a sustainability, engineering, or environmental area (or a bachelor’s and equivalent experience in the field) and five to 10 years of work supporting sustainable buildings, LEED, renewable energy, net-zero emissions, or Guiding Principles implementation.
  • Federal agency, laboratory sustainability, or consulting experience a plus, and LEED Accredited Professional preferred.
