The Everyday Green team consists of experts across the residential spectrum. We've been involved in the green building and residential efficiency field as raters and trainers since 2002 and have the proven experience and advanced building science training to take buildinga to the next level of green. ~

Everyday Green works primarily with residential space types including new and existing single-family, multi-family and mixed-use properties. Everyday Green provides third-party testing and verification services for multiple green home programs including LEED for Homes, Enterprise Green Communities, the National Green Building Standard, ENERGY STAR for New Homes, Indoor airPLUS and ENERGY STAR Multi-Family High Rise.

Position Overview 

This full-time Washington, D.C. based position requires a self-motivated professional that has the ability to problem solve, communicate clearly, think creatively, and convey building science concepts. This exciting opportunity will allow candidates to gain holistic experience in a variety of tasks. We are especially interested in candidates who bring diverse skill sets and interests spanning the sustainable building spectrum to contribute to our team.

Everyday Green works with clients to build better performing buildings. This position is for a professional interested in working in the building science field to diagnose and correct problems in homes and buildings.

This position is a hands-on opportunity to work with real world projects from design conception through construction completion. The job will involve working directly with architects, contractors, site supervisors, trade crews and building owners to properly design and effectively install green building measures. There are opportunities for professional development, and a successful candidate will play an important role in helping to grow a small business. 


Responsibilities

Work with multiple project teams throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. on third-party green building certification and code compliance. Responsibilities include field testing, analysis and diagnostics of new & existing buildings, analyzing improvements to building envelope systems, communicating green building concepts and techniques to clients, and performing advanced diagnostics.

An undergraduate four-year degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or other related fields is desired; and 1+ years of professional office experience. The successful candidate must be or become a certified HERS Rater. 

Responsibilities 

Duties will include:

  • Performing site visits throughout the greater metro DC area to verify appropriate insulation levels and installation of program measures.
  • Conducting tests to verify building performance for air leakage, duct leakage and indoor air quality.
  • Tracking and communicating inspection results.
  • Communicating green building program standards, code requirements and recommendations to builders, architects and owners / developers.
  • Performing energy modeling from plans and construction documents using appropriate program-approved software.
  • Improving in-house rater tracking systems and processes.
  • Reviewing plans, specifications and submittals for incorporation of green building program requirements.


Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of professional office experience.
  • General knowledge of basic residential construction and systems.
  • Education and/or working experience in building-related fields such as building science, architecture, construction, or engineering preferred. 
  • Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater certification preferred. Ability to gain and maintain HERS rater certification within three months of hire if not currently certified.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communicator and ability to explain complex concepts to a variety of professionals and trade crews.
  • Strong math and geometry skills.
  • Ability to read construction documents and plans.
  • Energy modeling experience with REM/Rate and/or eQuest, or other AHSRAE 90.1 approved modeling software tools preferred.
  • LEED Green Rater preferred or ability to gain and maintain LEED Green Rater status.
  • Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst certification preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in basements, crawl spaces and attics. These locations often have extreme temperatures.
  • Excellent computer skills and communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Environmentally minded with a commitment to sustainability. 

Note: Candidates will receive paid on-the-job training as needed. Candidates may be required to seek certifications and/or licensing related to this work. Opportunity to obtain Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst, LEED Homes Green Rater, National Green Building Standard Green Verifier, and Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater certification. Reimbursement for fees related to training is required if employee leaves within 1 year of completion of training and/or certification.
