Responsibilities
The Sustainability Specialist advises staff at all levels of the organization in the development of NBB's sustainability and environmental stewardship programs and facilitates internal alignment of the organization with these goals and policies.
The Sustainability Specialist will conduct public outreach activities in various venues and media, sharing NBB best practices and successes in an effort to engage others in meaningful dialogue about sustainability and key environmental issues.
-Advise managers in the development and implementation of programs and practices related to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
-Develop and implement internal communication and staff training/tactics to facilitate integration of sustainability and environmental stewardship practices into the daily work environment.
-Coordinate with and serve as a resource to marketing staff in the development of environmental advocacy tactics and environmental-marketing campaigns as appropriate.
-Coordinate data collection and reporting of sustainability performance
-Perform environmental research relevant to NBB and share best practices with staff as appropriate
-In conjunction with Environmental Health and safety staff, develop and implement corporate pollution prevention guidelines and programs.
-Answer questions and address concerns about NBB environmental practices and stewardship from consumers and vendors as appropriate.
Some in-state and out-of-state travel that varies in frequency and duration is required.
Skills and attributes necessary for this position
-Requires a Bachelor's Degree (BS) from a four-year college or university in environmental health, environmental affairs, environmental health & safety or a related discipline with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of on-the-job experience.
-Solid working knowledge of environmental affairs, stewardship, sustainability and environmental health related issues and principles.
-Strong communication and presentation skills required. Prior experience speaking to large and small groups is necessary.
-Ability to write clear and concise documents and reports.
-Strong analytical skills.
-Must have experience leading and being a part of multidisciplinary teams.
-Strong computer skills using MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Excel.
Skills desired, but not necessary: Prior experience at a manufacturing/production facility is helpful
This position is full-time and reports to the Environmental Health &Safety Manager.
Starting wage will be between $35,000 and $45,000 depending on experience.
