Position Overview:

The Sustainability Project Manager is responsible for supporting Guilford Collage as they facilitate green building design, construction and operations across campus.  The position will assist Guilford College as they provide building commissioning, energy auditing, energy conservation measure project management, and green building consulting services and create and deliver green building educational materials.  There will be a large learning component as the employee is exposed to a variety of different tasks and works to gain full proficiency and fluency in these tasks.

Reports to Vice President for Administration.           

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative project support for green building consulting and LEED certification services to project teams and clients throughout Guilford College
  • Support the building commissioning, energy auditing, and energy conservation measure project management services of Guilford College;
  • Attend project meetings and assists the Guilford College team as they work to ensure thoroughness and accountability in delivering sustainable design, construction, and operations projects;
  • Assist the Guilford College team in developing program-specific tools and templates;
  • Work with staff to create green building educational materials and organize and deliver training and best practice sharing events;
  • Support the Guilford College team in implementing the Guilford College Green Building Standards by reviewing projects to ensure guidelines are being met;
  • Conduct green building research as needed;
  • Participate as a member of the overall team, generally contributing to the well being of the organization, including supporting the occupant engagement efforts;
  • Proactively study sustainability and LEED educational materials to assist in performing job.

Qualifications: 

Requirements: 

  • A related undergraduate and/or graduate degree, such as mechanical or electrical engineering, architecture, and/or construction management;
  • Understanding of building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Be a proactive, self-starter with a passion for green building;
  • Excellent team skills, able to understand and synthesize the thoughts of others, able to work in a fast-paced, continually adapting work environment, experience with computer based work, and a very fast learner;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the capacity for developing and maintaining strong client relationships across a highly decentralized university management structure.
  • Client services skills and follow through.
  • No more then 3 years post graduation from undergraduate or graduate program

Preferred:

  • Professional experience / working knowledge of construction administration, specification writing, and construction documents and drawings;
  • Familiarity with the US Green Building Council’s LEED rating system and LEED accredited professional designation;
  • Professional experience with high performance buildings and a broad range of sustainable technologies.

Technology Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to learn software such as eQUEST, AutoCAD, Access, and Photoshop as needed.

Term: Full Time, Until April 2012
