Sustainability Program Manager

GreenerU seeks a Sustainability Program Manager to oversee implementation of sustainability programs at client colleges and universities. The GreenerU management team believes that colleges are ideally situated to become climate and sustainability leaders, and our mission is to help them achieve this objective. As a result, our Engineering team helps schools implement energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, while the sustainability staff assists with the operational developments and community engagement in campus sustainability initiatives.

Position Overview:

The Sustainability Program Manager will lead the planning and delivery of these services. This is a great opportunity for an experienced sustainability professional to join an exciting, young company and be part of the GreenerU team in delivering best-in-class sustainability programs. The Sustainability Program Manager will report to the company's Director of Sustainability. The ideal candidate will come from an interdisciplinary educational background and have proven work experience that is directly relevant to sustainability program implementation in the university setting.

The position is open until filled and has an immediate start date.

Responsibilities:

Client Management:

• Develop a working knowledge of client campus, values and opportunities
• Support campus stakeholder groups in facilitating strategic planning, goal setting and decision making
• Serve as the first point of contact for students, faculty and staff and reach across campus boundaries and departments to help orchestrate a coordinated sustainability program
• Serve as the project manager for sustainability projects on client campuses identifying and implementing campus sustainability opportunities and provide support in connecting these activities to existing curriculum and academic programs, etc.
• Provide sustainability literacy and training to client campus communities
• Design and deploy campaigns within the context of a college client's larger sustainability goals with the support of GreenerU's sustainability experts
• Understand contractual obligations to clients and ensure that the delivery of services aligns with these obligations

Business Development:

• Support the development of presentations and other deliverables for potential clients and strategic partners
• Work with Director of Sustainability to develop client offerings
• Represent GreenerU/campus sustainability at staff and student events on client campuses and at local, regional, and national conferences

Program Design and Development:

• Continuously aid in developing and evolving the business model for delivery of sustainability services
• Develop and refine client offerings targeted at external sustainability drivers (e.g. STARS)
• Become known as a knowledgeable sustainability leader on client campuses and develop meaningful, positive relationships with students, staff, administration and faculty
• Craft articles and case studies for publications
• Evaluate programs
• Prepare and/or contribute to reports within GreenerU and to clients
• Work closely with GreenerU's engineering staff regarding the implementation and monitoring of energy and water projects

Strategic Planning:

• Work with Director of Sustainability to develop and refine the company's strategic direction
• Maintain knowledge of current best practices in:
  - Sustainability, especially on college campuses, but not excluding sustainability in coporations and elsewhere
  - Behavior change, behavioral psychology
• Maintain knowledge of the campus infrastructure

Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree, in related discipline
• 2-4 years work experience in the fields of sustainability and education required
• Understanding of green building practices and sustainability opportunities; expertise for addressing such concerns
• Familiarity with university organizational and operational structures and ability to objectively think through initiatives in the client setting
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite

Skills:

• Innovative approach and attitude
• Experience with various facilitation tactics and evaluation techniques
• Ability to communicate knowledgably with diverse stakeholders including: efficiency engineers, facilities managers, administrators, faculty, students, etc.
• Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
• Ability to support multiple projects of various types at different stages with an emphasis on accuracy and meeting milestones and deadlines
• Ability and desire to work collaboratively as a team member and build positive working relationships at all levels of GreenerU and with college clients
• An enthusiastic commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage and excited a diverse audience
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, exercising sound judgment, and exceptional decision making skills
• Ability to demonstrate leadership and provide mentorship to student stakeholders
