Position Duties

Work both independently and collaboratively to advance the Mayor's priority of accelerating adoption of sustainable/green building practices in the private sector. Develop and implement strategies for increased awareness of green building that results in market impact. Integrate strategies into all aspects of green building program services and promotion delivered by a 5-person green building team.

This position has three related yet distinct components: 1/3 time is focused on market analysis and measurement, 1/3 on communications, and 1/3 on education. Work will include planning, analysis, and coordination of a wide variety of green building customer service, public information, outreach, program evaluation, and education activities.

Create strategies for program image and messaging development of the City's green building program, and link these to the Mayor's Environmental Action Agenda. Develop media relations and coordinate message development with other organizations and partners. Support market transformation utilizing expertise in marketing tools and how to apply them. Employ communications and outreach strategies to build awareness in the marketplace. Develop strategies to measure and evaluate market impact using a variety of benchmarking, trending, survey, and tracking tools. Conduct gap analysis and coordinate educational programs such as technical workshops, market-based training, awards programs, or design competitions, to effect market transformation.

Required Qualifications

BA degree in liberal arts, communications, environmental education or management, marketing, business or related field. Five years of management or leadership experience in a communications, media, public information, public relations, environmental education, or related area of responsibility.

Skilled in writing, developing presentation materials for diverse groups, providing effective advice and counsel on strategic communication issues, effective management of media relationships, understanding of technical information and translating it to non-technical audiences, and using web and internet technology.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of sustainable business practices, green building and experience in coordinating education, outreach and communications materials, including technical writing. Experience with a wide variety of measurement methodologies, especially related to public sector programs. Ability to work independently and to manage multiple and often competing priorities with very little direction. Professional graphic and publication design experience and high level of proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Pagemaker, Photoshop, and Acrobat in a fast-paced publication production environment; basic proficiency in Illustrator. Knowledge of both Macromedia Dreamweaver and content management system-driven web development.

$4,536 to $6,803/month salary range (Strategic Advisor I) Planning & Development
