  • Big River Steel is seeking a Sustainability Manager

Responsibilities

  • Expand current BRS sustainability efforts into world class program that heightens awareness and maximizes impact of BRS CSR and sustainability attributes globally.
  • Facilitate new business development and business strategy in Mexico
  • Participate in tandem with procurement group to foster development and utilization of steel scrap resources in Mexico.
  • Develop and maintain supply chain interests in Mexico favorable to BRS.
  • Work in tandem with environmental group to conduct supply chain audits as required to support BRS social responsibility and sustainability reporting.
  • CO-OP sustainability strategy and coordinate with environmental group to insure common objects are established and achieved.
  • Participation in identification and prioritization of viable sustainability projects, operational changes and physical plant upgrades.  
  • Coalesce sustainability initiatives with best data management practices.
  • Promotes sustainability awareness within our organization.
  • Maintain and where possible enhance sustainability certifications; example LEEDs
  • Partner with vendors and suppliers to implement, document, and monitor sustainable initiatives.
  • Develop and or expand data bases from which to report clear and concise metrics on various sustainability activities (cost savings, CO2, water, etc)
  • Collaborate with domestic and global sustainability entities to share and learn best practices and publish case studies of successful initiatives.
  • Leverage experts in renewable energy, energy supply procurement, and building intelligence tools to meet goals

Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications
  • Experience in governmental affairs at state Federal level preferred.
  • Strong negotiating skills and enterprise skill sets
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications
  • Excellent skills in project management, writing, public speaking, and organization
  • Experience in team building, collaboration, and networking

    Requirements
  • Must be willing to travel to and from Mexico routinely
  • Must become familiar with globally-recognized standards (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 26000, LEED)
  • Must become familiar with CRS and sustainability matters effecting domestic and global steel manufacturers
  • Must become familiar and participate in World Steel Organization
