Description
Fork in the Road Foods ä is a San Francisco-based early-stage company blazing a new trail in the food industry. Created by food industry veterans intent on building a better, values-driven food company, we have set-out to raise the bar in the industry and by doing so, offer consumers a more compelling, satisfying experience.
Because we have been unable to identify a pre-existing 3rd party certification for our suppliers and partners that meets our own environmental, social, and economic standards, we are intent on creating a homegrown set of standards and corresponding certification process. We need your help.
Responsibilities:
The Challenge:
Spearhead our effort to identify a best-in-class set of standards and then develop a certification process for our suppliers and partners.
Research the relevant sections of the following key subject areas:
1. Fair Wages/Economic Viability: We are intent on having economic transparency in our supply chain, and in particular, to the wages paid to our primary suppliers, independent family farmers.
2. Social Responsibility: All suppliers and partners must meet a minimum standard, including pay a fair wage, provide safe and humane living conditions, protect workers rights, and work to eliminate the exploitation of immigrant labor.
3. Environmental Sustainability: We source our primary raw materials only from environmentally sustainable, independent family farms. We need to establish a consistent standard that we can use to evaluate raw materials suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Benchmark your findings against other companies that are leading the charge in these disciplines.
- Recommend a course of action to senior management that satisfies our objective of being a pioneer in our industry while balancing the need for practical solutions that can be implemented quickly and tracked over time.
Qualifications:
Do you have what it takes?
- We are seeking a FT sustainability maven to complete this initial phase of work. This opportunity could convert to a permanent position once the initial phase of work is complete.
- The ideal candidate will have a track record of proven interests and passion in one or more of the following subjects: Environmental sustainability, social justice/labor relations, animal welfare, and/or the organic food movement.
- This person will have strong values and an unwavering need to take the moral highground in tough business situations.
- Previous experience in an early stage company is good. Industry experience in either strategic management consulting, environmental/sustainability consulting, or consumer packaged goods is a plus. Prior experience in the food industry is also beneficial.
- Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who is capable of operating in an environment with little structure and oversight.
Compensation: Compensation will be consistent with experience
