~ The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C. ACEEE was founded in 1980 and currently has around 50 staff members that acts as a catalyst to advance energy efficiency policies, programs, technologies, investments, and behaviors. ~
Internship Overview
This part-time paid internship will assist in a special grant project helping renters in Takoma Park save energy and money.
This project is a partnership between the City of Takoma Park and ACEEE.
- The start date is as soon as possible, 10-15 hours per week, lasting through December. There is opportunity for extension.
- The pay is $10 per hour, the days of the week are flexible, to accomodate your class schedule.
- Note: The intern will be paid through ACEEE, but will primarily work at the City of Takoma Park with the Sustainability Manager.
Responsibilities
The project includes outreach and small events with apartment renters on easy ways to reduce utility bills and save energy.
Students will gain experience on:
- Program design;
- Community engagement;
- Outreach;
- Grant projects;
- Energy efficiency programs;
- Public-private partnerships; and
- Sustainability in local government.
Qualifications
- Access to a car, or being able to bike in inclement weather and handle the hills of Takoma Park are necessary, as this position is based a little over a mile from the metro, and requires travel throughout the community.
- Foreign language skills are a plus, Spanish/English preferred, but other fluencies may be helpful, such as Amharic or French.
