Position Overview:
Xavier University is seeking applications for a Sustainability Coordinator. Primary purpose of this position is to: promote and guide sustainability efforts throughout the University; assist the University to achieve the goals expressed in the Campus Sustainability Plan; further enhance and develop a culture of sustainability at the University; build involvement and support for sustainability among students, faculty, staff, and University administration; and provide coordination, communication, and coaching for all constituents.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- serves as Xavier's spokesperson on sustainability matters, coordinates sustainability activities, and chairs the Sustainability Committee;
- supervises sustainability interns;
- administers working budgets and approves expenditures;
- researches and identifies appropriate funding opportunities;
- develops and writes grant proposals in collaboration with Grant Services;
- works with outside agencies and groups to coordinate and develop environmental programs;
- keeps current with sustainable laws, regulations, products, programs etc. and ensures that information is distributed appropriately;
- keeps the administration advised of changes in laws/regulations that may affect existing policies, require the implementation of new policies, or affect operating budgets;
- develops measurable data, monitor and reports program performance to administration via written and/or verbal communication;
- works with Physical Plant staff to ensure that sustainable principles are incorporated into all aspects of routine and planned maintenance operations, new construction projects, renovation projects, and purchasing practices and policies;
- develops and maintains both printed and web-based materials relating to both sustainability and facilities.
Depending on academic field and experience, may have the opportunity to teach one course per year. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- bachelor's degree;
- working knowledge of programs, strategies and technologies to successfully achieve the goals in the Campus Sustainability Plan;
- strong leadership skills and initiative with the ability to motivate others in various parts of the organization toward improving program performance;
- strong problem solving skills;
- good human relations abilities and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies;
- ability to work cooperatively within a volunteer environment;
- good communication skills both verbal and in writing including technical writing;
- excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work;
- proficient with giving presentations and using related software;
- competent with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook software;
- and ability to follow all safety, department, system and state policies, procedures and regulations.
Preferred qualifications:
- master's degree;
- academic discipline in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or Physics;
- professional Engineer's license;
- previous supervisory experience.
