Sustainability Coordinator

Position Overview:

The Sustainability Coordinator will assist in maintaining and improving sustainability efforts at Denver Zoo. This includes, but is not limited to: maintaining the Zoo's existing ISO 14001 certified Sustainable Management System (SMS), assist in developing and managing the procurement database system, coordinating environmentally related product and service purchasing at the Zoo, and providing leadership to the Workplace Conservation Committee (WPCC).

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain Zoo's ISO 14001 certified Sustainable Management System (SMS)
• Chair the Denver Zoo's Workplace Conservation Committee (WPCC)
• Communicate with suppliers, consultants, and Planning Department about product and service purchasing and the product procurement database
• Perform environmental, social, and economic analysis for products, suppliers, and the Zoo
• Oversight and supervision of interns and/or volunteers associated with assigned projects
• Communicate DZF's environmental and social improvement throughout the year with Greenprint Denver and the City and County of Denver representatives
• Communicate sustainable practices with Zoo staff through training, presentations, and policy development
• Communicate sustainable practices with Zoo guests and public
  Communicate through on and off-site presentations and media interviews
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

You will have: 

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in environmental studies, biology, conservation, environmental engineering, education or other comparable field
• Comprehensive understanding of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies
• Understanding of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ISO 14001
• Strong sense of responsibility and a self-starter willing to take initiative
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  Strong organizational skills
• Able to work independently as well as within a team atmosphere
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Access a PLUS!

Compensation: Salary Range 30,000 - 49,999
