Description

The Division of Engineering Services of Facilities & Services of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) seeks a Sustainability Coordinator.

Responsibilities

The Sustainability Coordinator will have responsibility for developing and leading a coherent, campus-wide sustainability program; coordinating academic, research, operations, and student sustainability activities into a coherent strategy; promoting the sustainable design, renovation, and operation of campus facilities including: green building design, renewable energy, sustainable landscapes, efficient transportation, green purchasing, waste management, energy and water efficiency, reducing pollutant emissions and discharges, water quality, and recycling; assisting departments, facilities and students with information, resources and specific recommendations to pursue sustainable projects and practices; supporting and complementing campus environmental management systems and other environmental compliance programs; identifying opportunities for most effective collaboration between researchers, students and operations staff; drafting administrative policies and procedures to encourage and facilitate sustainability; conducting research in energy conservation, sustainability, design and related areas; and acting as a central contact responsible for initiating and coordinating programs to ensure that the University's academic and business operations meet sustainability goals.

Qualifications 

Applicants must have a bachelors degree in environmental science, architecture, engineering, planning, or other related discipline; a thorough understanding and experience with multiple sustainability topics such as environmental management, building design, energy, landscaping, and transportation; strong communicative skills, including the ability to present to and negotiate with a diverse range of audiences with confidence and enthusiasm; strong planning skills and the ability to be strategic and creative in problem-solving; experience with building simulation and energy use modeling and energy conservation. Other characteristics desired but not necessarily required include an advanced degree, LEED accreditation and experience coordinating sustainability efforts at another institution, preferably in a college or university setting. 

This is an academic professional appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
