Position Overview
Supplier Quality Supervisor will be responsible for planning, managing and implementation of a robust supplier quality system. This will include the creation and implementation of a strategic vision and the quality processes, procedures, methods, and tools to support that vision.
Responsibility will also include driving supplier product and process quality audits and work with supplier to resolve major findings. The Supplier Quality supervisor will also oversee the incoming inspection staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct statistically based incoming inspection to qualify and assess supplier's quality and manufacturing capabilities to support the supplier qualification process, surveillance program and supplier development program.
- Lead and participate on cross functional teams to disposition and resolve Non-Conforming Material (NCM) and manage NCM inventories.
- Develop and track key supplier quality metrics that drive decision making, reduce cost of poor quality, and improve supplier quality performance.
- Lead investigations to determine root cause of supplier related issues and non-conformances. Apply appropriate actions to achieve problem containment, and then drive corrective and preventative actions to address the validated root cause. Audit as required to verify effectiveness of actions.
- Drive Supplier actions to verify part and process quality at the Supplier's location to reduce the need for incoming inspection activities.
- Continuously seek innovative ways to improve Quality effectiveness through the introduction of new quality system technologies, methods and controls.
- Provide quality training to functional owners and process owners as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor degree required, preferably in Engineering or a technical field.
Experience:
- 10+ years of quality engineering experience with knowledge of supplier quality management methods and quality system requirements, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role with demonstrated ability to lead and manage individuals and teams.
Desired Characteristics:
- Analytical and problem solving abilities including the understanding and application of SPC, DOE, FMEA, and the 8D process.
- Global supplier audit experience and familiarity with multiple manufacturing technologies.
- Experience with the following manufacturing processes; component assembly, fabricated welded assemblies, stamped components, piping and ducting assemblies, engineered materials (specialty powders, alloys, catalysts, etc.), and welded sheet metal assemblies.
- Has a proven track record for improving supplier quality performance in a product manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft software applications.
Certifications/licenses:
- Six Sigma Certification (GB, BB, or MBB).
- Experience with ISO9001 Quality system, specifically audit experience, is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Able to move effectively and timely in and around 70,000+ square foot cement floored manufacturing facility including standing, walking, climbing, reaching and kneeling.
- Able to move effectively and timely between external office buildings.
- Be able and willing to wear required personal protective equipment as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and other PPE as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks with full range of motion with both hands/arms. Motions include circular, up and down, back and forth, side to side and overhead.
- Must be able to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
