Audubon New York is a state program of the National Audubon Society, a not-for profit, non-governmental environmental organization that focuses on protecting birds, other wildlife and their habitats through education, sound science and advocacy.

Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary manages a 270-acre Hudson River tidal marsh as a wildlife sanctuary and promotes public awareness of the river and its wetlands through education and research.

Location: Audubon New York's Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary in Garrison, New York.  Just 50 miles north of Manhattan, Constitution Marsh is one of the Hudson River's largest remaining tidal wetlands. 

Responsibilities:

Assist with management of a 270-acre Hudson River tidal marsh and adjacent nature center.  40 hours/week, work alternate weekends.

Assist with development and implementation of interpretive programs for families, adults, and children, including guided canoe tours.  Participate in site-based and regional research projects, including the operation of a bird banding station. 

Conduct habitat management, primarily exotic plant control. Care for live animal exhibits and interpret exhibits to nature center visitors.  Assist with buildings and grounds maintenance.  Design and implement an individual research or education project.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate majoring in wildlife/marine biology, environmental studies, environmental/outdoor education, or related field; good interpersonal/communication skills with adults and children a must; ability to conduct strenuous field work a must; prior teaching and/or canoeing experience a plus; prior avian monitoring/research experience a plus; preference given to students fulfilling credit requirements.

When: 5/21/08 - 8/21/08 (negotiable). 

Stipend: $200/week plus housing.
