The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a non-profit organization created to engage public support for Cuyahoga Valley National Park and provide services to enhance public use and enjoyment of the park.
The Conservancy and the National Park Service (NPS) work in partnership to manage the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center (CVEEC). Programs at CVEEC are designed to educate and inspire youth and adults in a 500 acre natural setting.
During the summer months, the Conservancy offers a variety of day and overnight camps for children ranging in ages 6-17. Our goal is for campers to learn more about the environment, the arts, themselves, and their world. We stress individual growth and group
cooperation in residential and day camp settings.

Responsibilities:
Position Description, Essential Duties (other duties as assigned)
The Summer Teaching Intern has direct responsibility for supporting programming at the CVEEC by performing the following:
- Implement the purpose, goals, and objectives of all Conservancy camps and summer programs.
- Teach morning, afternoon and evening instructional units for both day and residential summer camp to youth
- ages 6-17.
- Teach Jr. Ranger group and/or family programs on various topics (including geology, wildlife, fishing, and Ohio
- history) to youth, ages 4-12.
- Assist with development and implementation of new programming for residential and day camps.
- Assist the Summer Camp Coordinator and Summer Camp Program Specialist with counselor training week.
- Serve as Point Person one evening per week for summer camp programs.
- Live in the dormitories and/or tents, as needed, when residential camp is in session and assume responsibility for overnight camper supervision.
- Serve as a positive role model in making good decisions and implementing effective practices for campers and fellow staff.
- Maintain summer camp and Jr. Ranger program equipment.
- Assist with administrative duties related to summer camp and Jr. Ranger programs.
- Assist with National Park, Conservancy, and/or park-wide programs when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in an environmental, arts or education-related field.
- Experience in environmental issues, science, arts, education and experience working with children is preferred. Must possess strong communication and problem solving skills as well as have the ability to manage others.
- Must be able to effectively present information to public groups, particularly campers, families, management and fellow staff.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from visitors.
- Must possess the ability to work in a team environment as well as operate independently.
- Enthusiasm, tolerance, creativity and good physical health required.
- Must enjoy working with youth!
- Background/fingerprint check and First Aid & CPR Certification must be completed before start date, and valid driver's license is required.
Term: June 8, 2014 through August 1, 2014. Camp sessions run from June 15th - August 1st.
Pay and Benefits:
- Summer Teaching Intern salary is $275/week.
- Housing provided in NPS-owned units in Everett during training and camp.
- Interns may be responsible for onsite, overnight dorm supervision during certain weeks of the summer.
- Meals are provided when campers are in residence.
