Description
ecoPartners works with landowners and project developers to build successful forest carbon offset projects. ecoPartners specializes in the technical aspects of project design, planning and development: remote sensing, biometrics and accounting methodologies.
In the U.S., ecoPartners is working with numerous landowners to implement sustainable forest management practices and to monetize the resulting carbon sequestration value. ecoPartners is actively developing projects in California, Mississippi, Louisiana, Minnesota and West Virginia.
Internationally, ecoPartners has served as technical consultant for approximately half of all validated and verified REDD projects to date, accounting for over 6 million tonnes of verified reductions on 460,000 hectares.
Position Overview:
ecoPartners, a global leader in forest carbon project development, is hiring a Summer Associate to join our start-up team located in Berkeley, California.
The position will last 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the successful candidate's availability. Most work will take place in our Berkeley office. The expected start date is the week of June 3, 2013.
Successful Associates may be considered for full-time employment. Depending on project timelines and capacity needs, ecoPartners may hire 2 Summer Associates.
Responsibilities:
- The Summer Associate will perform spatial analysis tasks on behalf of our clients engaged in forest carbon project development.
- Work involves analyzing deforestation using ArcMap, acquiring historical satellite imagery, compiling data for analysis, documenting work products and assisting with project development.
- It is likely that the Summer Associate will play a key role in the development of a ground-breaking program to monitor landscape-level forest carbon emissions, as a part of a global initiative to improve the environmental performance of forest conservation.
Qualifications:
- Hold or are pursuing an undergraduate or Master's degree with a demonstrated interest in GIS, natural resources, forestry or environmental studies.
- Have introductory level experience using ESRITM ArcMap (coursework and/or hands on experience).
- Have good communication skills, including oral and written.
- Have good time management and self management skills, and are able to take direction and work independently to reach identified goals on a set timeline.
- Are able to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive project deliverables.
- Have a commitment to solving the environmental challenges of our time.
Compensation: Compensation is $12 per hour
