Background Information: 

The Center for a New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life and promote social justice. We work with individuals, institutions, communities and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture and promote positive changes in the way goods are produced and consumed. 

Timeframe: This is a summer position between May-September, 2007, ideally for 2-4 days (or equivalent) per week. Longer commitments (several semesters or year-long) can be considered. 

Compensation: While this is an unpaid position, interns can use this position for (work/study) school credit and will be reimbursed for commuting via public transportation and receive a $10 per diem (prorated for partial days). Position Description: The Online Content/Marketing internship offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to work closely with accomplished online professionals in a highly successful national non-profit with tens of thousands of activists, members and supporters across North America.

The Online Content/Marketing intern's responsibilities include: 

* Check www.newdream.org content for errors (e.g. bad links, typos, etc.);
* Research statistics given on newdream.org and update them as necessary;
* Assist Internet Director in online marketing efforts: researching ad opportunities, negotiating swaps or donated ads, writing copy, conceptualizing ads;
* Write updated or new content for newdream.org;
* Assist in posting content as able;
* Help track and analyze website statistics.
* Helping with general administrative work (approximately 25% of time) and other tasks as requested. 

Position requirements: General understanding of online marketing and website architecture and demonstrated writing ability. Any one of the following skills is ideal, but not required: HTML, CSS, PHP, and MYSQL. 

The ideal candidate will be a good writer with excellent communications and motivational skills who is detail-oriented and capable of taking initiative on specific projects. Successful applicants will also have a sense of humor and subscribe to our philosophy of "more fun, less stuff." Applicants who have an interest in or experience with online marketing and website management are preferred.
