Background Information:
The Center for a New American Dream is a non-profit that focuses on sustainable consumerism to help people live consciously, buy wisely and make a difference. New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life and promote social justice. We work with individuals, institutions, communities and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture and promote positive changes in the way goods are produced and consumed.
Chosen in 2005 as one of Washingtonian Magazine's "Great Places to Work", New American Dream is a fun, fantastic workplace with inspirational colleagues who are passionately striving to reduce and shift American consumption. This is a paid Everett Internship which is (at least) a 10 week summer position and has additional eligibility requirements. See below and www.EverettInternships.org for full details.
Timeframe: Full-time four-day, 32-hour work week. 10 weeks or more, starting between May 21 and June 11. Longer commitments can be considered, but will be outside of the Everett program.
Compensation: $280/week for 10 weeks and reimbursement for commuting via public transportation.
Description: Interns work with our Communications Director and Communications Associates to support New Dream efforts with media outreach, strategy and marketing. Interns will also contribute writing and proofreading skills to our quarterly newsletter and assist with a variety of other communications efforts. This is a great, hands-on opportunity to learn the workings of a non-profit communications department.
Responsibilities include:
* Conduct research in support of media efforts;
* Track media related activities;
* Assist in writing and proofreading the New Dream's newsletter;
* Be comfortable with our motto: "more fun, less stuff"; and
* Provide administrative assistance (not more than 25% of time).
The ideal candidate is: eager to learn more about communications and marketing, highly organized, has excellent writing and verbal communications skills, and has some organizing experience. He or she is able to juggle, loves our mission, is internet-literate, has an intuitive grasp of human motivations and needs, and is a quick learner.
