Background Information:
The Center for a New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life and promote social justice. We work with individuals, institutions, communities and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture and promote positive changes in the way goods are produced and consumed. This is a paid Everett Internship which is (at least) a 10 week summer position and has additional eligibility requirements. See below and www.EverettInternships.org for full details.
Timeframe: Full-time four-day, 32-hour work week. 10 weeks or more, starting between May 21 and June 11. Longer commitments can be considered, but will be outside of the Everett program.
Compensation: $280/week for 10 weeks and reimbursement for commuting via public transportation.
Description: The grassroots/outreach internship offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to work closely with accomplished outreach professionals in a highly successful national non-profit with tens of thousands of activists, members and supporters across North America.
Responsibilities include:
* Promoting various national and local New Dream campaigns and especially working on our Local Buying Guide project, Do Not Junk campaign, and our Simplify the Holidays campaign;
* Developing relationships with environmentally-conscious individuals and organizations by working with student groups, local chapters of national organizations, professors, community leaders, or other interested citizens in order to promote the campaign and mission of New American Dream;
* Drafting campaign materials;
* Researching various issues applicable to our current campaign efforts as well as potential new issues and strategies;
* Corresponding with members and the public;
* Helping with general administrative work (no more than 25% of time) and other tasks as requested.
The ideal candidate will be a good writer with excellent communications and motivational skills who is detail-oriented and capable of taking initiative on specific projects. Successful applicants will also have a sense of humor and subscribe to our philosophy of "more fun, less stuff." Applicants who have an interest or experience with grassroots organizing are preferred.
