Description
The Delaware County Planning Department provides professional decision-making support to the citizens of Delaware County and to other agencies regarding land use, watershed protection, and sustainable community development. For more than 30 years, staff have accomplished this mission by providing technical assistance through programs like the Town Planning Advisory Service, Environmental Planning and Geographic Information Systems.
Responsibilities:
Advise communities on issues related to watershed land-use planning including flood damage prevention, stormwater management, recreation and fisheries, and riparian zone management. Serve as Planning Department contact for the areas listed above. Facilitate implementation of Stream Corridor Management Plans (SCMPs) for the East and West branches of the Delaware River, including working with stakeholders to update the SCMPs.
Liaise between Planning Department and other agencies including the Soil and Water Conservation District, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, and other state, county, and municipal agencies on issues related to stream management. Facilitate technical assistance with stream management projects for municipalities and private landowners including grant writing, project planning, and project design. Coordinate advisory groups to watershed management planning activities, composed of a wide variety of stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or higher degree in land use planning, landscape architecture, natural resource management, or a related field. Ability to coordinate multiple projects at once and switch gears rapidly. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, for a variety of different audiences.
Knowledge of and interest in stream management issues including flood damage prevention, riparian zone management, stream and floodplain ecology, stream recreation and fisheries, and stormwater management. Willingness to learn about a wide variety of different subjects pertinent to stream corridor management and community planning. Ability to work independently on some projects, and as part of a team in others.
Compensation: A permanent, full-time position. Pay: $35,000 - $42,500, depending on qualifications.
