The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 18,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a communications professional to serve as its Strategic Communications Manager.
Position Overview:
This mid-level position within the Marketing & Communications department will be responsible for developing and implementing processes for identifying issues and preparing communication strategies in response to issues that affect stakeholders. The Strategic Communications Manager will support the development and maintenance of stakeholder communications support and develop communication strategy, communications, speeches, presentations and reports to key audiences.
The ideal candidate will have solid strategic thinking and planning skills, insightful judgment, innovative problem-solving ability and be able to coordinate with diverse internal business partners. This individual must also have exemplary communications skills, including developing and maintaining constructive, open and successful relationships with co-workers, leadership and senior-level executives.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing processes for identifying issues and preparing communication strategies in response to issues that affect stakeholders
- Supporting the development and maintenance of stakeholder communications support
- Developing communication strategy, communications, speeches, presentations and reports to key audiences
- Developing strategies to protect and enhance USGBC's brand image
- Developing and implementing multi-audience communications plans for given areas of responsibility (issues management, crisis communications), including strategy, key messages and tactics
- Developing, writing and producing communication materials such as key messages, talking points, scripts, letters, bulletins, news releases and other documents as appropriate
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree journalism, communications, public relations or related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience managing strategic communication programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Proven skills in negotiation, persuasion, conflict management and providing advisory counsel to decision-makers
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to anticipate issues and develop solutions for complex issues
- Competent in use of Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Dedication to USGBC mission
