The Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District is hiring a Stormwater Outreach Coordinator to support new and ongoing programs throughout the County.
The District assists and educates the public to promote stewardship of soil and water resources. We are a resource for conservation information, services and products for citizens of Cumberland County facing the challenges of soil and water pollution, land development, wildlife habitat and flood mitigation. Like our 3000+ counterparts throughout the United States, we are a non-regulatory organization.
Position Overview:
Responsibilities for this position will include implementing outreach programs aimed at raising awareness and creating behavior change; supporting staff in developing and implementing outreach plans. Ideal candidate will have a BA or BS in environmental science, education, policy, or related discipline and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Position is funded at 40 hours per week; some evening and/or weekend work is required (limited and flexible).
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the implementation of environmental awareness, behavior change and evaluation programs.
- Implement, and evaluate environmental education and outreach programs, projects and promotions.
- Coordinate, develop, and maintain partnerships with citizens, communities, businesses and organizations to implement environmental management strategies.
- Coordinate environmental education promotions and activities with partners.
- Assist with identifying and implementing environmental education & outreach programs and opportunities for unserved and underserved communities.
- Assist with research, design, coordination, and preparation of studies, grant applications, and other fundraising efforts related to initiatives that further outreach programs.
- Execute work plans with measurable outcomes that meet environmental objectives in outreach plans.
- Represent the District to other groups and to the public at local, regional and national conferences and events to further District's outreach programs.
- Promote initiatives through coordination of print materials, displays, tours, events, websites, presentations, and projects.
- Create reports and publications using desktop publishing software.
- Design and maintain websites to advance initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, education or planning or other related field.
- At least 2 years' experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing environmental programs, preferably relating to watershed protection.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Excellent communication skills required, both written and oral, to clearly and concisely convey complex environmental issues to a wide variety of audiences, including the layperson, scientific professionals, policy makers, decision-makers, and elected officials at all levels of government.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in research, development, implementation, and evaluation of environmental programs, services, projects, and promotions.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in analyzing complex environmental issues, and the ability to work independent of direct supervision to plan and implement complex environmental projects.
- Knowledge of social marketing; demonstrated ability and skill in applying this knowledge.
- Knowledge of government functions and organizations affecting local, county, and state government.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and provide recommendations to enhance complex environmental programs, services, projects, and promotions.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and meaningful working relationships with representatives of government and private sector, policy makers, and the general public.
- Ability to effectively participate in multi-disciplinary teams, be a team leader when appropriate, and have a demonstrated ability to achieve desired results through the application of team concepts.
- Ability to develop print materials, displays, tours, events, websites, presentations, and projects to portray environmental information/education and to influence behavior change.
- Ability to prepare reports and publications with strong attention to detail using desktop publishing and Microsoft Office Products.
- Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, ordinances, standards, and guidelines.
- Ability to apply evaluation tools to either demonstrate the success of a program or identify improvements.
- Ability to organize work tasks and use time effectively.
