Dogwood Carbon is a small, dynamic company providing cutting edge landowner services. Our goals are to provide rural landowners income for environmental attributes and to promote sustainable forestry through uneven-aged silviculture. We do this through providing landowner access to the emerging carbon emissions market.
Position Overview:
The Staff Forester assists in determining the eligibility of forested acres for Dogwood Carbon's Improved Forest Management projects and in ensuring continued IFM compliance. The Staff Forester oversees Forest Assessments and Forest Management Plans for property involved in the projects.
Responsibilities:
This includes the following duties:
- Create GIS maps fore each property
- Direct and supervise contract forest technician field work
- Carry out field work as necessary
- Model forest growth and yield
- Write Forest Assessments and comprehensive Forest Management Plans
- Advise the organization on forest carbon science and policy issues, and assist in scoping the feasibility of future carbon projects.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Qualifications include Accredited degree in Forestry, competency in ArcView, competency in growth and yield modeling, ambition and motivation, willingness to travel, excellent oral and written communication skills, and philosophy of sustainable forestry and uneven-aged silviculture.
Preferred Qualifications include M.S. degree in Forestry, knowledge of carbon forestry, Forest Stewardship Council certification, proficiency in Forest Vegetation Simulator or other modeling program, experience in forest inventories including emphasis on forest sampling plan design.
