Position Overview: 

The Solar Technician is directly responsible for maintaining a variety of APS owned solar assets located throughout the State of Arizona. Applicants must be willing to travel statewide on a regular basis.

Responsibilities: 

Solar Technician functions include but are not limited to: installation, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and modifying solar photovoltaic systems, DAS systems and SCADA systems. Under minimal supervision the Solar Technician is responsible for carrying out these tasks in accordance with Operating and Maintenance procedures and associated vendor and manufacture technical procedures.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Use diagnostic tools for troubleshooting, identify and repair inverter performance issues at various solar sites.
  • Provide support for Asset Deployment and Pilot Implementation by performing site inspections.
  • Identify and repair communication issues with DAS or SCADA systems.
  • Repairing tracking controls and system hydraulic components. 
  • Identify module performance issues with testing equipment to include removal and replacement of modules.

Qualifications:

  • 2 year electronics degree plus 1 year experience in solar electronics or instrument and control work. 3 years of solar maintenance and construction preferred or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Previous experience working with communications equipment (DAS), testing equipment, construction and technical repair standards is a plus. Proficiency in 480VAC, 230 VDC, electronics, computers, mechanics and or hydraulics. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills along with PC skills in a Windows based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability and understanding of electrical/electronic blue print designs and schematics. 
  • In-depth working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), Accident Prevention Manual (APM) and Maintenance / Construction standards.
  • This position will be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and climb ladders, kneel, squat, bend, stoop and twist to assume awkward positions.
