Job Summary

Solar Design Associates is looking for a experienced solar engineer to help design commercial, industrial and utility scale solar arrays. SDA is looking for a talented self-starter with strong analytical skills, creativity and drive. Ideal candidates for the Solar Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical) role will have a passion for the solar industry and desire to be part of a team with goals to change the way the world's energy is produced and consumed. This position will be located in Harvard, MA.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design renewable energy systems for buildings as well as stand alone utility scale solar arrays and solar plus battery storage systems
  • Design/engineering of solar electric systems, energy calculations, production of construction documents, field assessments, feasibility reports, fatal flaw analysis, installation oversight, and system commissioning;
  • Interface with clients, architects, utility representatives, local code officials (AHJs), hardware suppliers, installation contractors and civil and structural engineers;
  • Project involvement will range from custom, energy autonomous Net Zero buildings to commercial, industrial and institutional and utility scale stand alone systems, commercial scale community solar arrays and solar + storage microgrids;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical
  • 1-5 years of solar experience
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Helioscope, Aurora, Autocad, ArchiCad and/or Revit a plus, especially CAD drawing experience;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, a must;
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (2017) a strong plus;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as individually
  • MW scale solar design work a plus;
  • PV Syst experience a plus;
  • Optimizer array layout experience a plus;
  • Some local travel required
