Distributed Sun LLC, a startup commercial-scale solar power system developer founded in 2009 and based in Washington, D.C., is seeking a Design Intern to take on a variety of research and system design responsibilities. Outstanding performance may lead to a permanent position within a rapidly growing company. THIS IS NOT A TEMPORARY OR SUMMER POSITION. Ideally, we are looking for undergraduate graduating seniors, recent grads, or graduate students.
Responsibilities:
The intern's initial primary responsibilities will be assisting in large-scale solar site engineering, design, and layout, with potential additional roles involving materials procurement (panels, inverters, racking, etc.), utility interfacing, future site evaluation and selection, and project management.
Qualifications:
The ability to work within AutoCAD is essential as well Google SketchUp. A basic understanding of electrical engineering along with knowledge of other design software would also be a plus. The intern will become knowledgeable in many aspects of solar engineering and design as well as proficient with a number of widely used solar industry design tools and software.
The ideal candidate must have a passion for learning about the solar industry, is punctual, can work independently, and is willing and able to take on a wide range of duties. A background in engineering, architecture, or other quantitative discipline is a plus, as is experience within the solar industry. While there are no guarantees of employment, the company is rapidly expanding, and all current employees interned prior to permanent employment.
