Position Overview:
Seeking a full time Solar Design Engineer with 3 to 5 years experience in the solar industry - designing large-scale commercial projects. Looking for a Design engineer to help with the design of commercial projects.
Qualifications:
- An engineering professional with a B.S. or M.S. in engineering field. Preference would be given to someone who has an electrical engineering background (specifically power engineering). P.E. not required for this position.
- 3-5 years solar design experience in both residential and commercial areas.
- Must have designed at least 5 commercial projects over 150kW.
- Must have thorough knowledge of designing a system from start to the end. Know all the possible pitfalls and issues that could arise during the design and account for them from the initial phase of the project.
- Must know the different inverter manufacturers and be familiar with their inverters, so that the best possible inverter could be selected for any given job. Must be able to analyze the pros and cons for possible inverter options and make a recommendation.
- Experienced with racking system design. A lot of in-house design for our racking systems for commercial projects in order to meet the customer's requirements. We have structural engineers (P.E.) that would work with you on the design.
- The candidate must be well versed in NEC in general and be an expert on the part pertaining to photovoltaic systems (PV).
- Must be able to select the best wire size for the electrical connections that would meet NEC requirements while also cutting costs.
- Must know about main service panels and whether the customer will need an upgrade and by how much in order to be able to install the PV system.
- Knowledge regarding the permitting process in different cities in the southern California region is required. Requirements for PV systems vary from city to city, therefore, experience in this area will be very valuable.
- Must be able to work well under pressure.
- Must be able to work without supervision as well as in a team environment.
- This job requires that you go on the field from time to time to trouble shoot systems or if something comes up during the installation phase.
