Description
Locus Energy provides monitoring/operations solutions to improve the reliability, efficiency, and accessibility of solar energy systems. We have seen some significant market response to our initial products, and are looking for an individual to help with the ongoing design, development and management of the product going forward.
Position Overview:
This position is a combined Software Developer/Product Manager, and would be part of the core team. This person should be comfortable with both ideas for strategic product management as well as hands-on software development. The role would include participating in software development, helping with design and testing, and working with the company's core team to expand the business.
The perfect candidate for this role would have a technology degree(s), preferably in Computer Science or a related engineering field, as well as actual experience in software development. It would also be beneficial for this person to have interacted with business users and/or clients. Start-up or renewable energy experience is a plus, though not necessary.
This is an interesting role in that it is a mid-level position which includes senior-level decision making and access. While the salary offered is in keeping with the current economy and the start-up nature of the company, the position comes with very significant equity options. The candidate should be comfortable interfacing with senior management at other firms as well as venture capitalists. Also, since the Company is small, the candidate should expect both hands-on and management work.
Responsibilities:
- Be a key part of the Software Development process, developing functionality and working together within an existing development team. This includes integrating with hardware components, though hardware design and development will largely be outsourced
- Work as part of the core team on company strategy and growth
- Assist in the architecture and design of future product releases. This will require significant interaction with the Company's clients
- Perform hands-on development work. The system has been developed in Cold Fusion, .NET and SQL, though additional languages may be used as the presentation layer is improved in future versions
- Meet with clients to help present the technical aspects of the product
- Help manage the delivery of the product - ensuring that software (and integrated hardware) will meet client demand
- Q/A - help manage the quality assurance effort. Ensure the product works according to specification that issues are resolved quickly
- Keep tabs on any emerging technical standards in the solar monitoring space and incorporating them into the overall plan
- Assist in other aspects of company growth.
Qualifications:
- Candidate should have excellent technical experience and design skills, as well as solid analytical thinking. This should include hands-on software development experience
- 3+ years of work experience is preferred.
- Candidate should be self-motivated and committed to doing what is required to help build the business. Start-up experience is useful, though not required.
- Experience and proven performance in product development.
- Ability to work well within a small development team.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) as well as presentation skills.
- Candidate should have strong software skills; Cold Fusion, JAVA, .NET and MS SQL database are preferred.
- Experience in HTML and dynamic Javascript such as jQuery a plus, though not required.
- Candidate should be interested in the renewable energy field. Experience working in the field is useful, though not required.
- Candidate should be proficient in all Microsoft Office products.
- Other useful skills/knowledge include:
- Understanding of electrical systems or photovoltaic systems
- Understanding of utilities and electric power markets
- Experience with CRM systems
Compensation: Because the company is still in start-up mode, compensation will begin from $40,000-50,000, and will include significant equity options as well as bonus. Please note, compensation will be adjusted to market levels as the company hits revenue targets.
