We are currently seeking an individual in the role of Social Responsibility Officer (1 Year Temporary).

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Manager, Social Responsibility, this temporary role will assist in the development and delivery of programs and initiatives to achieve Teck's social responsibility goals and initiatives.

This position is based in Vancouver with some travel to sites. All activities will be aligned with Teck's Environment Health Safety and Community Management Standards, and our commitments to external initiatives such as the ICMM Sustainable Development Framework, UN Global Compact, and IFC Performance Standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the successful completion and implementation of Teck's SMART (Social Management and Responsibility at Teck) toolkit with sites including project co-ordination, training and workshop facilitation, development of communication materials and monitoring and evaluation. The toolkit focuses on Teck's pillars of social responsibility including understanding the social context, engagement, impact management, sustainable benefits, monitoring and evaluation and overarching themes such as gender and human rights.
  • Oversee the management of TrackLine, Teck's community of interest engagement tracking database.
  • Contribute to the development and piloting of Teck's new social management system.
  • Contribute to Teck's internal EHSC Management Standards and Assurance program on behalf of social responsibility and communities functions.
  • Co-ordinate on-going internal community of practice for Teck communities and social responsibility staff.
  • Support North American operations, resource development projects and other internal groups as necessary to achieve Teck's social responsibility goals and objectives. Support may take the form of advisory services, development of resources, capacity building and training.
  • Contributing to other relevant tasks as required by Manager, Social Responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • More than 5 years of relevant professional work experience specifically in social responsibility, sustainability or community engagement/development.
  • Degree in social sciences, sustainability, social policy or other related fields. An advanced degree (e.g. Masters) is an advantage.
  • Proven technical knowledge/experience in CSR and social research methods e.g. community data collection, social impact assessment, community development programming and social reporting.
  • Familiarity with the extractives sector and community related projects globally.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience of working with broad range of people and groups. Training skills and experience are an advantage.
  • Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decision making skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of international principles and best practice related to communities and social responsibility e.g. International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM), UN Global Compact, UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and International Finance Corporation Performance Standards (IFC PS).
  • Experience and strong familiarity with Microsoft programs and other IT programs.
  • Integrity, respect and solutions focused with a commitment to inclusive, participatory and sustainable community development.
  • Language skills, especially Spanish, are desirable.
