Social Media Coordinator

Democracy Docket is seeking an entry-level Social Media Coordinator to join our social team! The Social Media Coordinator will work with other members of the social team to grow our audience and inform them about the latest voting rights, democracy and election news from around the country across multiple platforms. Demonstrated interest in elections and voting is a must; professional experience is preferred but not required. The Social Media Coordinator is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C, with partial remote work. The salary range is $55k-$59k. The tentative start date for this position is August 1, 2023. Responsibilities

  • Help execute Democracy Docket’s social media strategy across all platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Post), including writing and scheduling content 
  • Assist in the production of Democracy Docket’s podcast “Defending Democracy”
  • Draft social copy on a daily basis highlighting Democracy Docket’s work, including written content, litigation updates and general promotional content  
  • Summarize and format rapid response and litigation updates for Twitter, as well as for other social media platforms when appropriate 
  • Live Tweet floor and committee proceedings, litigation hearings and other public forums 
  • Collaborate with Graphic Designer to create social media specific graphics, including promoting Democracy Docket merchandise 
  • Actively work with Case Manager and Case Coordinators to push litigation-specific updates via social platforms  
  • Monitor all social media platforms to inform content and brand strategy 
  • Strategically use data and analytics to inform social media strategy  
  • Performs other related duties and projects 

Qualifications

Required skills 

  • Understanding of Campaigns/Politics and Law/Litigation required
  • Experience with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multitask

Preferred skills (not required)

  • Familiarity with voting rights, redistricting, and democracy reform  
  • Knowledge of Adobe Suite, specifically Adobe Illustrator 
  • Experience using video editing software, such as iMovie or Adobe Premiere 
  • Familiarity with WordPress and/or social media management tools

Education and Experience

  • Experience in a professional social media role preferred 
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • This is an entry-level position
  • This position is based in Washington, D.C and has a targeted start date of early August 2023
