For over 30 years, Huffman-Broadway Group, Inc. (HBG) has been providing environmental regulatory permitting and related services to the private sector and public agencies for projects that unavoidably impact natural resources protected by federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations. These protected resources include wetlands, streams and adjacent riparian areas, other aquatic habitats, and listed special status species and their habitats.
Overview of Role
Huffman-Broadway Group, Inc., is seeking to fill a Senior Wildlife Biologist position at our San Rafael, California, office. The role will focus on biological assessment work associated with residential, commercial, and infrastructure development projects, community and utility-scale renewable energy projects, distribution/fulfillment and data center development projects, mitigation plan development, land management, and environmental permitting.
We are seeking a professional scientist with a master’s degree who is a motivated self-starter and has an outgoing personality. The ideal candidate can work independently or as part of an interdisciplinary project team. The position requires excellent writing, verbal communication, presentation, organizational, and adaptive management skills. Demonstrated leadership abilities, along with experience in preparing proposals, managing budgets, and overseeing work scope items, are also essential.
Duties Include
- Work either independently or within an interdisciplinary team to prepare products for clients.
- Travel to project sites or meetings that require extended overnight stays.
- Conduct on-site biological surveys (fieldwork) to identify habitat types and the plant and animal species present or potentially present.
- Gather project data with GPS devices and menu-based data collection applications.
- Conduct assessments of field survey data, including interpreting geospatial data created by our GIS team members.
- Conduct impact assessments based on field survey data and review of project plans.
- Prepare technical reports or biological-specific sections of them.
- Prepare U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state water quality authority, and state fish and wildlife authority permit applications and supporting documentation.
- Prepare ESA biological assessment reports.
- Prepare CEQA biological assessment reports.
- Prepare biological sections for CEQA (or non-California equivalent) and NEPA documents.
- Coordinate with clients, their subconsultants, and our company's subconsultants.
- Contribute to business development.
- Maintain a daily record of time spent on projects.
- Manage budgets and schedules with on-cost and on-schedule delivery.
- Other duties, as assigned, to support the company’s overall mission.
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills)
- Master’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a related field.
- 5 years of professional experience (preference given to candidates with California experience).
- Proven ability to prepare high-quality technical documents promptly.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Outgoing personality.
- The ability to work safely outdoors in rain, heat, cold, dust, wind, and on wet or uneven terrain.
- Physical abilities: can climb stairs without assistance, lift 25 pounds, and carry a 25-pound backpack for 300 yards.

Compensation
- Pay: $85,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
