Position Overview:
Supervises, directs, and works with crews to erect and install Substations. Substation Project Manager shall effectively coordinate and utilize personnel, material, equipment and other resources placed at the Project Manager's disposal in order to complete assigned projects in a timely, safe and cost effective manner.
Manages either at the site level as focal point of contact for client and field personnel on larger projects or from the home office responsibly for multiple projects (with periodic trips to field locations. Reports project status to Senior Management leads project site team daily and resolves issues to the benefit of all parties.
Responsibilities:
- Must be familiar with substation steel erection, static mast erection, equipment installation, (feeder breakers, main breakers, metering, air switches, capacitor banks, main transformer, etc.), equipment wiring, control building wiring, etc., along with substation testing, commissioning and start-up.
- Oversee QC program for above mentioned tasks.
- Oversee Safety Program (by Risk Management).
- Manage subcontractors as required (road/wetland bores, tower wiring, etc.).
- Perform cost estimating and forecasting.
- Develop project schedules.
- Procurement of material and equipment as required.
Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in project management preferred, with 3 years experience managing projects in excess of one million dollars.
- Must have a B.S. in Engineering, Project Management, or appropriate substitution (total time in position and previous work experience in lieu of formal education considered).
- Background of good engineering and construction practice.
- Knowledge of substation electrical construction.
- General knowledge of environmental, safety, health and security regulations.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse group while nurturing a team atmosphere.
- Must be able to and willing to travel.
- Must be able to work at job site for the duration of the project.
- Must be proficient in MSWord, MSExcel, MSPowerPoint, MSProject and MSOutlook.
Performance Factors:
- Quality Control of all installation and finishing work.
- Quality Control of all subcontractors.
- Training of key management personnel.
- Efficiency in order to maximize profit.
