Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is a
non-profit organization based in San Rafael, Marin County. Through funding from
federal, state, municipal, private foundations and other sources, SEI is

partnering with community groups that are integral to local climate and energy
solutions, such as housing providers, schools, colleges and universities, and
municipal governments.

Position Overview
SEI is seeking a Senior Project Coordinator to support our Education and Sustainable Communities sectors. This position requires some technical expertise and knowledge related to energy and sustainability topics in order to analyse data, implement projects and train program participants across a variety of energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate protection programs.
This is a full time position based out of SEI's San Rafael office, working typical hours, Monday-Friday, with occasional travel and field support. Target start date is immediate. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities
The Senior Project Coordinator reports to and supports the activities
of SEI Executive Director and other director staff, in addition to leading projects
and programs.
We are looking for
candidates who can work comfortably and professionally with a diverse set of colleagues,
partners, clients and program participants, that include: school
administrators, instructors and facilities staff, federal, state and local government
department staff, policy makers, community stakeholders, financial and technical
service providers.
The Senior Project
Coordinator will be involved in all phases of projects, from design and fundraising,
to planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting. This team member will
manage other staff and partners supporting their projects, providing
appropriate direction and oversight.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct quantitative analysis
of energy measures and strategies, identifying and tailoring promising and
proven approaches to funder / participant needs and interests. - Lead and/or assist on programs
focused primarily on our efforts within our K-12 Education and Sustainable
Communities sectors. - Establish and expand strategic
contacts and relationships, and our agency’s reputation as an innovator, expert
and thought partner by representing the organization externally at select conferences,
workshops, meetings and events. - Flexible to support the
breadth of SEI programs and projects as time and funding priorities dictate. - Facilitate school district
and municipal staff decision-making on climate, energy and sustainability issues
through a variety of group forums and targeted discussions/meetings. - Research and document best
practices in climate and clean energy policy, standards and programs. - Develop recommendations for
accessing technical, educational and financial resources for energy efficiency,
building performance, solar/renewable energy, climate change and related topics. - Interface with Educators,
Students, Teachers, Administrators in the K-12 sector, creating innovative approaches
to working with schools and community through a variety of project management
responsibilities. - Assist with all aspects of
our education and municipal projects and programs, including grant/proposal
writing, planning, implementation and reporting. - Plan, facilitate and support
instructor, student, staff, community and professional program-related trainings
and events relating to energy efficiency, conservation and climate protection,
as well as perform associated logistical support.
Qualifications
Content Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree
(Master’s preferred) in a quantitative discipline, environmental studies, or
related field or equivalent work experience. - Knowledge of
national, state and local environmental policies and relevant policy mechanisms
for addressing energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate change in a
community setting. - Experience with
quantification of energy uses and impacts and climate change metrics, preferably
derived from direct involvement in municipal climate/energy action planning. - Demonstrated
background and success designing and leading group trainings on technical
topics (e.g.: energy efficiency, solar energy, energy auditing, climate change,
building performance, etc.) - Broad
understanding of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy
concepts and topics, evidenced by pursuit of additional coursework, seminars
and professional certifications. - Knowledge, experience
and interest working in the K-12 education sector, with traditional or
non-traditional teaching. Understanding of the organizational mechanisms of
school districts highly desired.
General Skills:
- Evidence of strong
verbal and written communication, analytical and organizational skills. - Experience and
ease working with superiors, peers, junior staff, partners, clients,
constituents. - Prior people management,
mentoring and supervision skills, including ability to convey direction in a
positive, constructive and succinct manner. - Aptitude for interpersonal rapport building
and working collaboratively with others. - Strong experience
with and interest in data analysis and quantification (e.g. Excel-based
analytics, economics, statistics, Building Science calculations) - Track record for
successfully taking on a growing body of work, associated tasks & deliverables. - Recent case
studies serving as a successful trainer and presenter. - Exceptional time
management and organizational skills and ability to self-manage and follow
through to ably meet multiple, concurrent deadlines. - Familiarity and
interest working across various office automation, group share and technical applications
software. - Ability to work under
direct supervision, collaboratively in teams/ partners, or independently.
Additional Valued Skills:
- Curriculum and
training materials development and delivery. - Familiarity
operating within municipal (city/county) structures and staff. - Use of online
social media, video editing, graphics software, website creation.
Compensation: SEI offers a competitive annual salary for this position in the range
of $48,000 - $55,000 plus benefits.
