Founded in 1977, the Alliance to Save Energy is a non-profit coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders. The Alliance to Save Energy supports energy efficiency as a cost-effective energy resource under existing market conditions and advocates energy-efficiency policies that minimize costs to society and individual consumers, and that lessen greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the global climate.
To carry out its mission, the Alliance to Save Energy undertakes research, educational programs, and policy advocacy, designs and implements energy-efficiency projects, promotes technology development and deployment, and builds public-private partnerships, in the U.S. and other countries.
Position Overview:
The Senior Program Associate is responsible for research, analysis and outreach for projects within the Buildings, Utilities, and Industrial Programs. Primary activities will support buildings-related activities such as the Efficient Windows Collaborative as needed. This opening is in the Alliance's Washington, D. C. office.
The Senior Program Associate position requires contact with funders, government agencies, stakeholders, and other parties. The position requires independent initiative, along with the ability to quickly acquire new information, to work effectively with team members from the Alliance and other organizations, and to express complex ideas in clear, compelling written form. The position will also require collaboration with other teams within the Alliance, such as the Policy & Research and the Communications teams.
Responsibilities:
Activities include:
- Techncial outreach to stakeholders and partners,
- Analyzing and reporting on opportunities to improve industrial energy efficiency, and recommending U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) initiatives to address these opportunities,
- Identifying and convening stakeholders for industrial energy-related initiatives, and
- Program support to voluntary efficiency initiatives targeting manufacturers.
In addition, the Senior Program Associate may be called upon to:
- Initiate and carry out research and analysis on assigned tasks commercial building energy efficiency technologies, policies, and programs.
- Compile information from team members and prepare project work plans, budgets, reports, and grant proposals,
- Plan and organize meetings, workshops and other events as assigned; take notes and prepare summary reports on a range of complex technical and market/program issues,
- Perform other research, analysis, writing, and project organizing and support duties as assigned, and
- Maintain lines of communication with Alliance team members, stakeholders, and program partners.
Qualifications:
- Excellent analysis, research, and writing skills in English,
- A strong goal and deadline orientation,
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software,
- Effectiveness working in a team environment,
- Ability to communicate effectively with funders, stakeholders, and peers,
- Self-motivation and ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines, with limited supervision,
- Working knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and basic principles of economic analysis,
- Experience in industrial energy-efficiency programs and projects,
Bachelors degree and 5 or more years relevant experience (or Masters degree plus 3 years) in a technical field related to energy efficiency (e.g., architecture, engineering, economics)
