Aquion Energy is producing a revolutionary battery based on novel ambient-temperature sodium-ion technology. Early production is currently taking place at the Aquion Energy pilot manufacturing plant located in Pittsburgh, PA. This position offers an unrivaled opportunity to join a well funded clean technology startup at a very exciting stage in its development.

Position Overview:

Aquion Energy is looking for an accomplished, motivated and high energy professional to join our Product Management team. This important role will serve as the lead interface between our customers and our product development team. The Senior Product Manager will develop and leverage a deep understanding of Aquion's customer requirements and technology capabilities to ensure our products offer an optimal mix of performance and value.

The Senior Product Manager will accomplish this through direct engagement with customers and partners to generate market and product requirements that will then be refined and shared with our engineering team. The Senior Product Manager will also be responsible for the creation and development of product and technology roadmaps inclusive of all relevant stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

Product Management

  • Manages the Company's product offerings through the entire product life cycle - from idea/inception to end of life.
  • Establishes and manages all elements of the product road map development, review process and execution over the entire product lifecycle. Creates the business cases for planned products.
  • Engages with customers and partners through sales and business development teams in order to define market requirements and create a Market Requirements Document (MRD) for every planned product on the Product Roadmap.
  • Analyzes competitive offerings and communicate findings internally to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Integrates product & cost roadmaps (w/ timetable targets) into a single Product Requirements Document (PRD).
  • Collaborates with R&D, Supply Chain and Engineering to support development of a product cost roadmap for all planned products.
  • Outlines product pricing & costing planning in alignment with the product roadmap.
  • Collaborates with R&D and Engineering to support the development of a technology roadmap for all planned technology development.
  • Supports product engineering teams throughout development process from concept to production intent design by continually engaging customers to incorporate their feedback into the product design process.
  • Work with Systems Engineering team to establish Project Charter & Schedule for all planned product development efforts.
  • Works across the organization to champion an effective product development process.

Product Marketing Support

  • Contributes to the development and execution of product marketing strategy.
  • Develops and quantifies specific value propositions.
  • Identifies customers and partners in target markets.
  • Communicates key elements of the product roadmap.
  • Supports creation of all market facing collateral.
  • Actively contributes to inbound/outbound marketing campaigns (blog entries and whitepaper creation, technical presentations at conferences.)

Business Development Support

  • Provides input from current technology roadmap to the partnership planning process (power control electronics mfgs, 3rd party validators etc.)
  • Contributes to the development of sales channel partner plan.
  • Assists in the evaluation and planning of entries into new markets.

Qualifications:

  • BS in an engineering discipline; electrical engineering strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years product management experience in a relevant field. 
  • Must possess strong financial and analytical skills. MBA or MS desired.
  • Demonstrated track record of product management of DC based electrical power systems for Commercial and Industrial and/or Utility customers.
  • Prior success in developing power or energy system products for C&I and Utility customers with a significant high voltage DC component. 
  • Experience developing microgrids with an energy storage component a plus.
  • Strong competency in designing electrical power systems.
  • Experience with international businesses and time in a sales or sales engineering position is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated skills in modeling & analyzing product performance and economic assessment to determine customer return on investment or competitive economic differentiation.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills with the ability to translate / synthesize difficult and technical concepts/information into understandable and actionable plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate /work effectively with both technical and commercial colleagues. 
  • Experience with protocols like CANbus, Serial, MODBUS, PROFIBUS, TCP/IP, LabVIEW, etc.
