The Alliance for Climate Protection (Alliance) seeks a Senior Policy Analyst to support the Alliance's climate change and clean energy campaign efforts.
The Alliance for Climate Protection was founded in 2006 by Nobel laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. With more than five million members worldwide, the Alliance is a unique non-profit, non-partisan organization that is committed to educating the global community about the urgency of implementing comprehensive solutions to the climate crisis.
Position Overview:
The Senior Policy Analyst will be a member of the Policy team and will report to the Director of Policy. The Senior Policy Analyst must be able to distill complicated issues into products for a lay audience. Thus, the ideal candidate will have experience drafting talking points, briefing memos, and white papers with an eye for factual accuracy and intellectual honesty. In addition, the Senior Policy Analyst should be comfortable performing detailed technical analysis, including spreadsheet modeling, for internal use.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Policy Analyst will primarily be involved in analyzing and researching climate and energy legislation and identifying ways to promote a clean energy economy. The position requires the ability to understand complex policy issues, communicate information succinctly and effectively, and provide strategic policy-related guidance to political staff.
The position will focus on the intersection of business and climate change mitigation. This may include:
- understanding the cost, job, and economic development impacts of proposed climate and energy policies,
- formulating strategies to encourage businesses of various sizes and sectors to support climate and energy policies,
- performing state-specific research,
- reading, summarizing and analyzing reports and legislative and other policy proposals, and
- completing general research and document drafting requests.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a background in some or all of these focus areas:
- Energy and climate economics
- Electric utility operations and finance
- Business response to climate change
- Legislative procedure
- Electricity generation
The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree related to one of the focus areas above, plus 3-5 years of professional experience related to energy, environment or climate change.
