RESTORING SCIENTIFIC INTEGRITY CAMPAIGN
WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE

 
The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) seeks an experienced organizer to recruit and mobilize scientists, scientific societies and others for its Restoring Scientific Integrity to Federal Policymaking (RSI) campaign. This campaign will inform opinion leaders and the public about the damage being done by the current administration to the processes through which scientific knowledge is factored into federal policy decision-making, and will put forward measures to better protect the integrity of such scientific input in the  future.

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Strategy and Policy, the Senior Outreach Coordinator plans, directs, and coordinates outreach, recruitment and mobilization of scientists, scientific societies, and others for the Restoring Scientific Integrity to Federal Policymaking (RSI) campaign; participates in compaign planning and other activities to advance program and organizational goals; supervises program assistant and consultants as needed. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the outreach activities of the RSI campaign. Develop and implement scientist outreach and recruitment activities. Coordinate with related activities, products and priorities of the campaign and organization.

Distribute UCS statement/call to action to scientists for signature, using  existing UCS networks, list serves, advertising, the web, and outreach to scientific societies. Engage scientists to reach out to colleagues, speak to key audiences, give media interviews, engage local opinion leaders, and contact their members of Congress on this issue. Help develop and disseminate communications toolkits to these scientists. Plan and organize events such as teleconference skill-building workshops and policymaker education days.

Coordinate UCS web content related to RSI campaign. Working with program assistant and other staff, maintain and administer the RSI campaign database. Produce and distribute action alerts to scientists and others activists; promote reports and other campaign materials to UCS  members and activists, the scientific community, the media, and the general public.   

Supervise the RSI Campaign Program Assistant and outreach consultants, and coordinate with other UCS outreach/advocacy staff as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS:
Five or more years experience in grassroots organizing/constituency outreach at local to national levels, along with campaign  planning, implementation, and management. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with scientists or other professionals who are expert and/or prominent in their fields, along with an understanding of the role of science in the policymaking process. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Master's degree in science or technical field  preferred.
