Description
Social Accountability International (SAI) is a multi-stakeholder organization that advances Human Rights at Work to benefit both employees and employers. We facilitate the development of sustainability standards; partner with business and civil society to enable organizations to successfully implement such standards; and work with SAI Corporate Program members and SA8000-certified facilities to provide training & tools for improving work conditions and realizing the benefits.
Facilities in 65 countries are certified to SA8000, which is based on international labor and human rights conventions and labor law plus a proven management system. More than 1.3 million people work at SA8000 certified facilities. SAI works collaboratively with a wide variety of organizations. SAI affiliate SAAS accredits qualified auditing bodies to certify compliance with SA8000.
Position Overview:
Enable SAI personnel based abroad to attain key goals of SAI in their countries and regions. Develop, sustain, and scale up SAI programs and service delivery abroad. Assure sustainability of country programs and local service delivery, helping position country programs to attain financial self sufficiency after initial 3-year start up periods.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and support activities of SAI field offices and Authorized Representatives abroad, in coordination with all SAI departments at HQ. These activities include planning, fundraising, personnel training, and program development.
Specifics:
- Assure quality, consistency, and adaptation to locality of SAI work:
- Protect and build reputation of SAI & credibility of SA8000 certification;
- Assure effective and efficient delivery of SAI grant-supported programs, esp. PPPs
- Support research on impact of SAI services & SA8000 implementation.
- Contribute to strategic and annual planning for SAI globally, coordinating input from field.
- Scale up use of SAI tools and services:
- Market SAI training & technical assistance in various sectors;
- Support development of new programs and funding to implement them;
- Recruit Corporate Program members & assist with services to members in Asia;
- Collaborate to develop business plans for SAI abroad
- Communicate & collaborate:
- Represent SAI at meetings, conferences, seminars;
- Actively and responsively engage stakeholders; coordinate convening of local multistakeholder advisory groups
- Develop cooperative programs with other organizations;
- Respond to queries about SAI & SAAS programs & services.
- Exhibit social entrepreneurship and professional management;
- Recruit & assure training of leadership at field offices and of new Authorized Reps.
- Report regularly by country on progress towards goals & objectives.
Qualifications:
Experience and Expertise:
- Success in management of socially responsible/sustainable production & supply chain
- Proven commitment to improving work conditions & assuring freedom of association through workplace standards/systems & training, working knowledge of ESG standards & labor law.
- Successful management of grant-supported international programs with budgets of at least $500,000
- Excellent communications skills in sectors varying from trade unions to CEOs
- Proven success with delivery & marketing of sophisticated professional services & training
- Highly organized work style, with team building approach
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g. business, international relations)
- 5 or more years of experience in Asia
- Excellent communications & management skills
- Completely fluent in English and at least one Asian language
- Experience in professional level training, course development and/or social auditing [desirable]
