Please note: This position has the possibility to work remotely up to 100% of the time. The position will require occasional travel to the Phoenix corporate offices and/or site locations . This position may be performed anywhere in the U.S. except California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky and New York.  Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors.  Should the positions shift to in-office work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time should the position meet the established eligibility for these benefits.

Description

The Senior Managerial Level - ESG Reporting position will report to the Director – ESG Relations & Capital Financings and manage the development and execution of Freeport-McMoRan’s global strategy on sustainability-related reporting and disclosure, including the ownership and production of the company’s annual sustainability reports, climate reports and various other ESG-related and subsidiary-level sustainability reports and disclosures, as required.

This is a unique opportunity to support our global company as we continue to enhance our ESG reporting to meet the needs of our various stakeholders and demonstrate our key sustainability progress. You will directly contribute to driving improvements in ESG disclosure and transparency by working collaboratively with the ESG Relations team as well as cross-functionally and cross-regionally to support and ensure accuracy and completeness of non-financial/ESG-related quantitative and qualitative information across the global company and develop clear, consistent narrative for use in external reporting.

This position provides flexibility for remote work.

  • Responsible for the development and execution of annual ESG reports including, but not limited to, the annual sustainability report and climate report, including:
    • Ownership of clear, consistent narratives for reports, including writing and editing report content to ensure high-quality, clear and consistent disclosures and messaging
    • Coordination with various internal subject matter experts to compile and develop key qualitative and quantitative information for inclusion in reports
    • Incorporate and develop content with consideration for relevant reporting frameworks (e.g., Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)) and key ESG ratings requirements
    • Coordinate closely with the Director – Responsible Production Frameworks & Sustainability to complete external assurance and/or audit reviews of reports and integrate any related requirements, as appropriate.
    • Develop project timelines and ensure project management to achieve external publication deadlines.
    • Manage external consultant(s) on the design, layout and production of reports and any other consultants involved in report production
    • Establish and coordinate various reviews with external counsel, internal legal, communications and subject matter experts and manage robust internal review and sign-off processes, and
    • Maintain audit/back-up support files to support quantitative and qualitative information included in the reports
  • Collaborate closely with the broader ESG relations team, Director - ESG Systems and Controls, Legal, Financial Reporting and other teams to support the maintenance of controls and consistency around ESG reporting and other related public disclosures.
  • Collaborate with the broader ESG Relations team, Legal, Financial Reporting and others to contribute to the review of ESG-related disclosures within the financial disclosures including Annual Reports, 10K, Proxy Statement, etc. as required
  • Support development of other key corporate ESG reports such as the annual OECD Step-5 Report, annual Voluntary Principles Report on Security & Human Rights, etc., as required
  • Partner closely with operating site teams to produce selected site-level sustainability reports and disclosures to ensure consistency in reporting and data
  • Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • This position requires air travel. In accordance with Freeport-McMoRan’s requirement for all employees whose job requires travel by air, if you are hired you will be required to submit proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to travel by air, unless the company has granted a medical or religious accommodation.
  • Bachelor’s degree AND eight (8) years of relevant professional experience including at least three (3) years in one or more of the following areas: sustainability/ESG reporting, financial reporting, investor relations and/or external communications for large publicly traded corporate, investor relations, external communications in large publicly traded global corporate, public audit firm and/or ESG/sustainability consulting, relevant banking experience or other relevant areas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical skills
  • Experience preparing detailed written reports and technical analysis and synthesizing complex information into cohesive, clear narratives
  • Strategic, creative, practical and open-minded thinking with excellent business judgment and a focus on business outcomes
  • Experience working in multi-functional global teams with the ability to foster collaborative relationships, lead through influence and build trust in a large organizational setting
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and to manage multiple demands and priorities effectively and meet deadlines with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated project management experience with strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility and motivation to learn new content, consider new resources and innovate
  • Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively with a cross-functional team of diverse individuals
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with a willingness to support the learning and development of peers and team members

  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and standards preferred, including but not limited to, GRI, Integrated Reporting, SASB, TCFD, and the UN Global Compact.
  • Ability to serve as an internal partner for ESG reporting-related questions and broader communications needs and opportunities
  • Thrives in deadline-driven, intense work environment.

Criteria/Conditions:

  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing.
