Cx Associates is a socially responsible consulting firm based in Burlington, VT. We offer consulting, commissioning, measurement & verification and LEED services to building owners, designers, efficiency program administrators, and regulators throughout the Northeast. We have provided commissioning services for over 12 million square feet of new and existing facilities and have been closely involved in more than 2 dozen LEED projects providing commissioning, LEED documentation, energy analysis and measurement and verification services to ensure buildings meet certification requirements and operate to meet the owners needs. We have provided EM&V services for several major program evaluations. We help clients lower operating costs, improve productivity, ensure savings are realized and reduce the environmental impacts of their operations.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Engineer who is passionate about sustainability and shares our dedication to making a positive impact on the environment. The ideal candidate is someone who has an interest in taking a leadership role in our small firm, including providing mentorship to more junior engineers, and taking an active role in business development.
This position requires expertise and considerable experience with HVAC systems and controls, including HVAC design, systems optimization and analysis for energy efficiency. The successful candidate will be a creative problem-solver who excels at finding innovative solutions to problems, an intellectually curious individual who is committed to continuous learning and staying abreast of developments in the field, a strong project manager, an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, and a skilled multi-tasker who excels at planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
This position is located in Burlington, VT, a city that is consistently ranked as one of the best places in the country to live, work, relax, and do business. The position requires occasional field work and travel within a 2 to 3 hour radius from Burlington, Vermont. Occasional overnight travel within New England and New York State may also be required.
Responsibilities:
Cx Associates provides building commissioning, measurement and verification, and consulting services to clients committed to the sustainable design and construction of their new and renovated facilities. The key tasks of a Senior Engineer include:
- Identifies, develops, and quantifies comprehensive energy conservation opportunities associated with HVAC, EMS controls, boiler and chilled water plant systems in ESPC projects
- Develops and uses spreadsheet and computer based energy simulation programs
- Writes scopes of work for HVAC systems for subcontractors and writes detailed metering and verification plans to support energy conservation measures.
- Performs technical presentations to customers and at conferences
- Writes detailed energy conservation measure descriptions to be included in proposal submissions, including EMS sequences of operation
- Project management of leading-edge energy projects
- Acts as a senior project advisor, providing mentoring and quality assurance for a variety of projects
- Presents findings in technical reports and papers
- Provides input into in strategic planning, business development, and the acquisition of new work
Qualifications:
Key Knowledge Requirements:
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, HVAC sizing tools, chillers, boilers, air handlers, variable speed drives, motors, refrigeration, and energy optimization of HVAC systems
- Knowledge of commissioning and retrocommissioning processes
- Knowledge of measurement and verification standards and practices
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client service, including client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction
- Knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, energy codes, IESNA standards, IPMVP
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction and energy optimization of buildings

Preferred Education & Experience:
Candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other related field. A Master's degree and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification would be an asset.
- A minimum of 8 years of HVAC systems design experience.
- A minimum of 5 years building commissioning and/or energy efficiency experience.
