Position Overview:

A Senior Energy Engineer is needed for a rapidly growing energy efficiency and sustainability Consulting Firm in the Raleigh/Durham area.   We are looking for a Senior Energy Engineer with proven capabilities Performance Contracting projects that improve energy conservation and efficiency initiatives for clients, with a secondary focus on renewable energy and sustainability initiatives. We are seeking an individual who has their P.E. and/or C.E.M.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Energy Engineer will play a pivotal role in acting as a project point-person in the Southeast Region, supporting our Director of Quality Control (based in NC), and managing other engineers for projects primarily in North Carolina.

In addition, specific responsibilities include:

  • Review ESCO proposals and Investment Grade Audits; including their Measurement & Verification, commissioning, O&M, and training plans, energy savings calculations, energy models, ECM cost build-up, markups, and energy escalations.
  • Report to and assist Director of Quality Control in project activities.
  • Investigate pre-project conditions, conduct preliminary audits (including existing equipment and operating parameters), and attend commissioning and acceptance testing.
  • Prepare assessments of feasibility study reports and investment grade audits completed by ESCOs to ensure technical viability of proposed energy conservation measures and energy saving capital projects to generate the anticipated energy and process improvements including review of baseline conditions/calculations, ECM savings, calculations and scopes, M&V approach/plans, , capital cost estimates, operating parameters, engineering drawings and project submittals.
  • Prepare information requests for clients/consultants to address and resolve deficiencies.
  • Prepare the necessary reports to manage and monitor project progress.
  • Collaboratively work with the multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure reviews and recommendations are completed to professional standards.
  • Review and comment on Commissioning Reports, M&V Reports, and other Close-Out documentation.
  • Provide assistance/insight/guidance to Owners and ESCO Teams regarding planned approach to execution of an ESPC Project.
  • Conduct walk-through audits of large commercial/industrial/institutional facilities to identify energy conservation opportunities, recommend steps to investigate and implement the opportunities, and provide written reports of findings.
  • Act as a team-lead and mentor junior staff.
  • Keep abreast of technology trends and changes in this rapidly evolving market.
  • Interact with senior-level facilities personnel.

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate:

The candidate is based in or willing to relocate to the Raleigh/Durham area and has 10-15 years experience in the energy efficiency industry.

Experience Desired:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree, with a minimum of 10 years experience in a consulting environment, preferably an energy engineering or energy services company.
  • Extensive knowledge of energy savings performance contracting (ESPC), energy auditing procedures, energy modeling (Trane Trace, E-Quest, etc.), and measurement & verification of energy savings.
  • Experience and knowledge of electrical energy conservation/efficiency opportunities.

Other Skills/Competencies required for the role:

  • Certified Energy Manager, M&V Professional, and LEED Accreditation preferred.
  • Solid analytical and technical skills, with experience in energy modeling and statistical analysis (e.g., regression analysis) an asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management, staff and external contacts.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Desire to grow with the company and play a pivotal role in the development of our southeast region practice.
