Senior Electrical Engineer

Position Overview:

d.light is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong experience in product design.  We are looking for someone who has a passion for designing and building innovative new products that will improve the lives of millions.

The position requires working in a multi-cultural, diverse and dedicated team of human factor specialists, product designers, mechanical engineers and testing engineers to design solar-driven consumer-electronics products.

Reporting to: Director of Product Engineering. 

Travel: Regular travel (80% time) to China during first 3-6 months, decreasing to 10-20% (1-2 weeks per quarter) long term.

Responsibilities:

Concept Designs and Feasibility Studies:

• Brainstorm new ideas and create new designs with the engineering and design teams.
• Upgrade existing designs of products to improve efficiency and performance.
• Build prototypes of concepts to determine technical feasibility via in-field testing.

Design for Manufacturing:

• Work with operations team to optimize design for manufacturing from concept stage.
• Assist operations team when new products go into production.

Team Building:

• Recruit and mentor junior engineers.
• Project management.

Qualifications:

• Masters in EE from top-20 engineering university + 8 years experience.
• Extensive experience personally creating new designs and seeing them through to mass production.
• Experience working with overseas manufacturing.
• Capable of analyzing and designing consumer electronics circuits optimized for cost and power efficiency.
• Expertise in digital, power, analog circuits, microcontroller assembly code, circuit prototyping, and PCB layout and assembly.  
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.

Desirable:

• Experience with solar photovoltaic cells, battery charging, mobile phone charging, and LED driving.
• Interest in products for the developing world, social and humanitarian goals.
• Mandarin Chinese language skills are a bonus.
