Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will support the Design and Engineering Services' on-going operations of project management, technology reviews, engineering consultations, and various other engineering related activities. This position will provide leadership and management for the engineering and economic analysis of various technical issues. Projects undertaken by this individual are complex with multi-functional components that often require cross-functional teams of personnel throughout the company to successfully complete.
This individual will be responsible for a particular technology area with a strong emphasis on Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and some Demand Response. Administration of this technology area will include management of all financial aspects, oversight of internal and commission audits, interface with regulatory and internal staff and oversight of the performance of project managers and subcontractors.
This position will coordinate with other utilities, interface with rule making bodies, manage staff to complete projects, oversee budget and expenditures, and develop regulatory responses for the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC). He/she will interface with the Energy Efficiency and Demand Response program staff and will perform and coordinate engineering and economic studies and evaluations. Lastly, he/she will perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering & a minimum of 12 years of engineering related experience OR a Master's degree & a minimum of 10 years of engineering related experience OR a PE License and 8 years of engineering related experience
- Must have work experience in building energy systems and/or energy efficiency measures, and/or demand response strategies.
Core Competencies:
- Demonstrated work experience in one or more of the following areas: lighting systems and controls, space conditioning systems and controls, refrigeration systems and controls, whole building and building systems energy simulation, mechanical controls, electrical controls, industrial processes, agricultural, and/or demand response technologies.
- Demonstrated experience with software simulation programs such as: eQUEST, Energy Pro, TRACE, and HAP.
- Demonstrated expertise in the following engineering areas: heat transfer, thermodynamics, physics, and engineering economics.
- Demonstrated experience in metering and testing of equipment and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to gather, understand, integrate, and synthesize complex information in order to develop innovative solutions, make recommendations, or propose action plans.
- Demonstrated project management experience and experience managing budget, scope and resources.
- Demonstrated experience managing and directing cross-functional teams to address and solve business and engineering issues and problems.
- Demonstrated experience working with projects/programs in performing the following: consulting with key stakeholders, managing contracts and relationships with regulatory organizations, providing direction and make strategic decisions regarding changing project/product scope, policy development, implementation, and quality control.
- Demonstrated experience producing technical or engineering reports and presentations.
- Demonstrated experience interfacing and collaborating with all levels of management, peers, other departments as well as internal/external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
- Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Must demonstrate effective decision making and results delivery as well as the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
- Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Preferences:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited.
- Project Management Professional Certification.
