We work worldwide with women survivors of war and civil strife. Since its inception, the organization has distributed more than $14 million in direct aid and microcredit loans and served more than 24,000 women participants. The organization has programs in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Colombia, Iraq, Rwanda, Kosovo, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria.

Job Overview:

The Senior Business Development Officer is responsible for identifying, developing and expanding income generation opportunities for Chapter offices, program participants and graduates. 

The Senior Business Development Officer provides Chapter offices with business skills and income generation expertise, capacity strengthening technical assistance and other advisory, planning and oversight tasks to facilitate the economic self-sufficiency of program participants and graduates.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Work in collaboration with Chapter offices to research, develop and implement new income generation opportunities;    
  • Provide technical assistance to Chapter offices in the areas of business plan development, income generation activities and product marketing;    
  • Design and oversee implementation of employment referral services for program participants and graduates;    
  • Coordinate with Chapter office Micro Finance Managers on the expansion of microfinance programs to include, but not limited to, business development training and other skills development and technical assistance for microfinance clients;    
  • Coordinate, develop and expand the local and international marketing of income generation products and services of program graduates;    
  • Design and oversee implementation and analysis of annual Chapter offices' market assessment on income generation prospects including entrepreneurial, self-employment, co-operative and employment opportunities for program participants and graduates;    
  • Align Chapter office vocational and skills training with country specific employment and self-employment opportunities;    
  • Work with Chapter office income generation staff on product identification and design, products sales, quality control, standardization, production systems and pricing;    
  • Climate specific business plans for each Chapter office;    
  • The capacity of Chapter office's income generation staff;    
  • Design and oversee program departments policies, systems and procedures for Chapter offices business development and income generation activities; and    
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications: 

  • M.A. in Marketing or MBA;    
  • 8-10 years experience in business development and/or marketing in developing countries;    
  • Experience in conflict and post-conflict environments preferred;    
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender and development with strong theoretical knowledge combined with practical experience;    
  • 7-10 years developing, managing and implementing income generation projects;    
  • Willingness to travel to regions of conflict and post-conflict;    
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, multiple goals, problem solve and prioritize among assignments;    
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity;    
  • Well organized with attention to detail and a resourceful problem solver;    
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure without close supervision;    
  • Ability to work as a team member;    
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;    
  • Extensive computer skills (especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and the Internet);    
  • Self motivated and goal/deadline oriented;    
  • Strong commitment mission and programs of Women for Women International.
