ConSol has been providing energy solutions for builders, government agencies, utilities, trade associations and developers since 1981. ConSol services include: energy code (Title 24 and IECC) compliance documentation; energy efficiency, retrofit, and green program design and management; builder energy code training; and Home Energy Rating System (HERS) inspections. In addition, as a team lead for one of the Department of Energy's Building America teams, ConSol offers leading-edge research and energy consulting in systems and technologies to improve sustainability of new and existing residential developments.

Position Overview:

The Senior Business Development and Research Manager directly reports to the Owner of the company.

The position is responsible for new business development and climate research and analysis- for commercial buildings, production homes and the retro-fit residential market.  Writes and edits technical reports in support of company programs and contracts, including programs with the Department of Energy (DOE).  Supports the Owner in managing contract relationships with government agencies, and ensures reporting requirements are met with standards specified by National labs and DOE.

Works independently and leads own work.  Works as a member of a multi-discipline team and may provide work direction to others to ensure programs are proceeding according to plan.

Responsibilities:

I. Research Design and Analysis:

  • Research on climate based energy efficiency measures and new technologies implementation in production homes and commercial buildings for both new and retrofit market
  • Recommend measure packages and project case studies that support the annual Project Management Milestone reports for approval by NREL and other government agencies.
  • Work closely with Owner in providing climate-specific technical support to programs, including but not limited to:
  • Reviewing the adequacy of design and construction documentation sufficient to ensure successful implementation of the recommended package of measures, including provisions to verify that the measures have been implemented correctly.
  • Identifying the most reliable, practical, durable and cost effective measure packages required to achieve annual PMM performance targets.
  • Coordinating the identification of builders and remodelers who are achieving the annual performance targets
  • Coordinating the development and review of case studies that demonstrate implementation of measures that meet the performance targets
  • Reviewing recommendations for packages of measures with other Research Teams working in the relevant climate area
  • Coordinating identification of potential case studies that can be pursued for future performance targets
  • Interfacing with appropriate federal, state and local government personnel regarding research results and compliance, inspection and audit issues.
  • Participating in the planning and developing of long-range goals and objectives to provide accurate projections of ConSol consulting projects and income.

II. Strategic Business Development and Financial Analysis:

  • Identify and develop new business leads for consulting projects for commercial and residential markets.
  • Develop and implement internal business strategy for new business opportunities, clients and supply chain partnerships
  • With input from the Principal and Consulting Manager, conceptualize, formulate and write proposals and develop realistic budgets and scopes of work.
  • Analyze financial and strategic viability/benefits of projects and new business ventures.
  • Develop innovative financial models for implementing new business ideas
  • Develop and demonstrate the effectiveness of new concepts and ideas for achieving particular mission goals or objectives.
  • Represent ConSol at meetings, conferences, trade shows and other events as required.
  • Represent ConSol in a professional and confident manner when interfacing with the public, government agencies and when dealing with contractual issues.

III. Technical Writing:

  • Write and review technical literature, publications and reports generated by Consulting Department.
  • Coordinate writing assignments for measure packages and project case studies for Project Management Milestone (PMM) reports for the BA program.
  • Provide technical and editorial peer reviews on milestone reports and request for proposals.
  • Writes research/technical papers on research conducted, for energy conferences and journals.

Qualifications:

Specific Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong report and proposal writing skills are a top priority for the position.
  • Experience working with government contracts required; experience with NREL, DOE required.
  • Ability to use a high level of originality and technical judgment.
  • Extensive experience or expertise in the following areas: construction, architecture, instrumentation and engineering analysis.
  • Extensive experience in the fields of residential and commercial building energy efficiency (new and retrofit buildings)
  • Proficient with building energy simulation software including, but not limited to: Micropas, DOE 2.2, TRNSYS, eQuest, Energy Pro
  • Experience identifying and designing research studies to gather needed energy efficiency data. Significant experience performing computational modeling in support of experimental programs.
  • Experience in Financial modeling and analysis. Knowledge of finance and funding.
  • Experience in new business development and strategy development and implementation
  • Candidate with emerging new markets or international markets experience preferred
  • Computer skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Windows.
  • Experience with formal and informal design reviews.
  • Experience documenting results in formal reports and presenting the results for peer reviews.
  • Effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in public speaking, conducting presentations and training sessions
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and/or independently.
  • Able to work with people using superior customer service skills, tact and diplomacy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field required.
  • MBA or Master's degree with emphasis in Financial Management required.
  • LEED AP Certification from United States Green Building Council (USGBC) required.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy in the building industry required.
  • Experience with the US DOE Building America program preferred.
  • Commercial and residential building industry experience required.
  • Proven technical writing skills including publications of reports required.

Compensation: 70,000-100,000
