The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking an attorney with 6+ years of experience for its Carolinas Office in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  This is an excellent opportunity to be part of an organization that is successfully addressing some of the most important and challenging environmental issues in the Southeast and the nation.

About SELC and the Carolinas Office:

SELC's mission is to protect and improve the quality of the Southeast's natural areas and resources. Working closely with state and local partners in six states, we provide legal advocacy and leadership on priority regional issues relating to forests, the coast and wetlands, air and water pollution, and transportation and land use. Over its 21-year history, SELC has earned a reputation as one of the leading environmental organizations in the country.

Headquartered in Charlottesville, VA, SELC also has offices in Chapel Hill, NC; Atlanta, GA; and Washington, DC; and satellite offices in Asheville, NC; Charleston, SC; and Sewanee, TN, with a total staff of 67, including 31 attorneys. The Carolinas Office currently has 24 employees, including 16 attorneys. 

About the Position:

The senior attorney will have significant responsibility for a portion of SELC's work in North and South Carolina, including advocacy in state and federal court and regulatory agencies. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a multi-faceted lawyer with 6+ years of  legal experience; excellent academic credentials; strong legal and communication skills; and a deep personal commitment to environmental protection.   Litigation experience, particularly environmental litigation, is preferred.
